elliottucker,

Listening to book about the Norman conquest. It’s comical how many people conveniently and out of the blue drop dead in mid 11th century France and England. Often just after an innocent cup of wine.

psneeze,

@elliottucker I'm convinced this is how the sommelier profession came about. Nobles were like, "hey young knave, I wager thou hast a most splendid palate. Taste this wine and share thine thoughts."

elliottucker,

@psneeze no doubt. Some of the other reasons for death are great. The description of Earl Godwin's death (Harald of the lost eye's dad) in the Chronicles clearly indicate a massive stroke. But it's because he lied to Edward the Confessor and was struck down by God (so...err, yeah, a stroke)

psneeze,

@elliottucker It's well known in medical circles that lying to Edward the Confessor can cause stroke.

elliottucker,

@psneeze he keeps snitching to God. Wanker.
