I was thinking earlier that it would be pretty cool to have an #ActivityPub-powered app that uses something like the old #WordPress#PostFormats feature that, in turn, supports post formats that other #Fediverse services use.
For example, the app can post regular posts like this one, structured link posts that work with services like #Lemmy, galleries through @pixelfed and videos through #Peertube.
Unless #ActivityPub automatically reformats posts based on what they contain when a user of services like these receives them in their feeds? I'm not sure how this works under the metaphorical hood. 🤔
@pfefferle@paul@pixelfed Doesn’t Friendica (which I thought was supposed to be more of a Facebook alternative) support multiple post formats?
Kind of makes sense that Pixelfed or Mastodon, given their nature, would somehow wring everything into a photo or plain-text format. (One could wonder why we decided to copy mainstream social media in the first place; nevertheless, these are all valid choices.)
I think ActivityPub formats, it being JSON and all, are hardcoded. (Unlike, e.g., mf2.)
@paul@pixelfed Not in that Detail (there is no filter to send special post types to selected platforms (that is not that easy btw. because it’s hard to detect the platform)) but you can choose post types in the settings, then every post type will be formatted in the matching activity and platforms could choose if they accept the activity or not. Sadly mastodon only shows „Note“ activities in a nice readable way.
