mike,

I think I found the "perfect cheap" Chinese microscope for inspection and soldering. 7" 1080p IPS display, HDMI out, large working distance, battery powered (i.e. portable).

I'll share more details soon. It took a lot AliExpress/Alibaba digging to find it. I paid about $100 😮. 🔬 #DIY #Repair #electronics

@mike did you end up posting details on this somewhere? Was super interested!

mike,

@glassbottommeg I didn't yet. I was working on a video but I haven't finished it yet

@mike ah, rad. I shall wait patiently then! :3

@mike That looks really useful with the monitor. I had an HDMI microscope somewhere but never seemed to want to use it where I had a monitor and the monitors were huge

    @doug looks good!

    extralongdivision,

    @mike how long have you had it? Does it seems like it'll survive a couple projects?

    mike,

    @extralongdivision I've had it for a whole hour now (it just arrived). 😋

    I'd say it walks a fine line between cheap and sturdy. I could easily see one of these surviving multiple projects, but I could also see it breaking. This isn't professional grade, but its also probably all most people need.

    extralongdivision,

    @mike I like that its compact and portable. I guess its a trade off

    mike,

    @extralongdivision Me too. I think you could put together an awesome portable repair workshop for just a few hundred bucks.

    Heck, I just picked up this portable Oscilloscope too. It's only single channel, but the manufacturer is supposedly making a 2 channel version.

    Pair these with one of those portable soldering irons from Pine64, a good USB PD battery bank, and you're ready for most jobs. 😋

    extralongdivision,

    @mike an oscilloscope and a DMM? What a time to be alive
