reddig33,

Glad at least someone is trying to stop it. It’s almost like federal anti trust laws don’t exist anymore.

sin_free_for_00_days,

Just something else that god damn Reagan fucked up.

Brand new Colorado resident as of two weeks ago, and I’m already proud of something my government is doing! What a difference from Texas, this’ll take some getting used to!

swiffswaffplop,

Moved here from Florida a couple of months ago. Wait until you get the election ballot in the mail and voting is now the easiest thing ever. It’s just nice to be in a state where they actually want you to vote.

Amazed,

See my comment above yours for how to support good bills by testifying remotely.

There are those working to take voting rights away in Colorado.

Amazed,

If this pleases you, then know the Colorado General Assembly is now in session! It is a part time legislature. So act now.

Register to vote and learn about who your rep is.

It is very easy to sign up to testify in support of or against bills “Remotely via Zoom” on the below link.

It’s really important to support good bills, like loan repayment programs for mental health workers, universal healthcare reforms, and increasing housing equity. And it’s just as vital to stand against bills like income tax cuts (like in Texas), which runs against how Colorado finances work, and only benefit the wealthy. And bills seeking to take away voting rights, or curtail mail ballots.

Colorado lawmaking is wild. It’s the first time democrats have had a majority in several ways, but it is also a microcosm for the political/culture war bs that plagues the nation.

Positive social change is a lunch pail job, day in and day out.

Welcome to CO. You’re in for quite a change from TX. This state is freaking great and people are from everywhere but CO, lol.

voracitude,

You’re not kidding - first state to pass right to repair laws for farmers is pretty huge, given the lobbying weight John Deere likes to throw around. First state to take a stand for the Constitution, apparently. And that’s just two of the reasons to be proud of Colorado, the OP is yet another in a growing string!

And the economy isn’t in shambles. It’s pretty resilient to the USs ups and downs.

perishthethought,

“Blocking this merger would only serve to strengthen larger, non-unionized retailers like Walmart, Costco and Amazon, by allowing them to maintain and increase their overwhelming and growing dominance of the grocery industry. In contrast, Kroger and Albertsons Companies merging will bring lower prices to more customers, strengthen and create good-paying union jobs, and bring more fresh, affordable food to more communities,” the company said in an email.

Said the lying liars.

sin_free_for_00_days,

Well, I agree with part of the statement. Buddha knows Walmart and Amazon are in dire need of some trust busting.

perishthethought,

It’s tricky, yes. I don’t like how big those companies have gotten either, but Kroger claiming that one brand is needed to fight those big boys doesn’t make any sense to me. There’s no way the corner grocery store is going to go away / *everyone *will start buying *all *of their groceries at Walmarts or Costcos. As long as that’s the case, we deserve to have a choice in which grocery store we visit and not just which Kroger store will we go to today.

sin_free_for_00_days,

I don’t think I was clear, because I agree 100% with you. I think Kroger should be broken up, along with the ones mentioned.

good-paying union jobs

I can tell you right now that the union that kroger has/uses is ass. I was working for them about 9 years ago and was only making $8 an hour by the time I left. The raises were yearly and you had no say in them.

Radium,

They also just went through a large, highly publicized fight with their union last year. There were strikes. They now turn around and claim their union with pride. Typical capitalistic bullshit

QuarterSwede,
@QuarterSwede@lemmy.world avatar

Right. I’d like to know how they plan to do that. Talk is cheap big corporate.

perishthethought,

The plan is usually just: Say whatever you have to to make the deal go through. Do whatever you want after the merger is completed. :(
