The idea of #YouTubers flying to #Australia to unbox #iPhones a day or two earlier seems utterly insane to me, especially when a lot of these same reviewers will just complain that the phones are minor incremental updates. Is chasing views and the #emissions associated with global travel just for this actually worth it?
@cjgyt the entire "content producer" space has gone absolutely bonkers in the last few years. absolutely reeks of utter desperation in the fight for more views. i do wonder how much the various sponsors/brands actually get out of this. surely at some point the bubble will burst...
@patrick_h_lauke I wonder if it's not so sponsors/brands cutting back will hurt the creators (since many mix sponsored content, revenue from YouTube's advertising model, affiliate links and their own products for revenue)... but people tuning out, at least from some once popular creators. We only have so many minutes to watch and, as you said, creator gimmicks can definitely begin to feel desperate. You'll just shift to someone who feels more fresh, or even a space that's more interesting.
