The #Windows11 era:
We decided to ruin our image and any reputation we had as an industry standard operating system in the name of innovating with #AI and "changing the way you compute" (or something like that) #Windows#Microsoft#copilot#recall
The #Windows11 Task Bar is such garbage. I plugged in a second monitor and was wondering if there was a way to get my pinned apps to appear on the secondary Task Bar.
...Toggled an unrelated setting off and back on while poking around Settings, and boom they all suddenly appeared.
I wanted to give it an honest go, but given that this is clearly an amateur knockoff of the much superior Task Bar from previous Windows releases, I may as well look at third-party options lol.
my Windows 10 taskbar vs the Windows 11 24H2 taskbar... I hate this so much that it's unhealthy. They have removed all the hacks that allow you to make it smaller (other than paid apps like Start11) #windows1124h2#windows11
@ward That's a relief. I have so many friends who are dreading upgrading to 11 but I'll point them all toward open shell....they're not power users but there's enough bullshit changes in Win11's interface that the'yre all very put off....and with one exception they all understandably cant or dont wanna switch to linux...i dont push it on them. anyway, cheers.
@casey I would prefer to be on Linux... but I end up fussing with the OS more than I end up doing stuff. OBS and wayland = nightmares! My pixel art program has major errors (it's the devs fault I think for not fixing the Linux build)... Then my music software doesn't work well... If I didn't have certain needs it would be easier.
Folks that use #Windows11 -- why would my taskbar keep moving from "center" orientation to "left" orientation on its own? I set it to "center" and every once in a while it just moves to the left on its own. I can't find a pattern to the timing. Any thoughts?
Microsoft has pushed out an update that breaks VPN access in Windows 10 and 11. This after the fact that we all learned Windows 11 will have ads, plus Microsoft may try to shame users with a watermark for those who do not accept their recommended settings or use their latest recommend hardware.
I work, take calls, bank, stream movies, stream music, edit documents, photos, videos, print, game, shop, and I do so ad free, watermark free, activation free, while safely and securely using an optional VPN, and I do this all on Linux (Ultramarine Linux, KDE spin).
It is once again a good day to be a Linux user. -- Why?
Microsoft is now going to punish people with watermarks if your system does not 100% meet their system requirements, even after you paid for your copy of Windows. -- Trying to shame you to either buy their recommended hardware and accept their recommended settings.
🤦♂️
@Faket
C'est ça.
80% des jeux Windows tournet sous Linux sans bidouille particulière dès le moment où on force l'activation de SteamPlay sur tous les titres.
@sebsauvage@Faket@alainmi11 Y a pas que Steam hein...
Has anyone else experienced anything similar to my #Windows11 laptop with an #NVIDIA GPU (it's a 1660 Ti) with 32GB RAM just suddenly going greyscale? It's fixed by a reboot but it happens every month or so. It's just super weird.
@jake4480 It could be that. I stripped away a lot of the Win11 UX to make it more Win10-like and now I don't mind it so much. I do also have a Win10 machine as a back-up/dodgy behaviour device (and a functioning Win8 😂 too for completeness sake) where I don't think that has ever happened...
@DomSathanas ha! So weird. I remember trying to upgrade my wife's old laptop with 7 to 8, and it bricked it. I really don't want a Win 11 machine but if I do, I'll get one with it already on it. I don't upgrade anymore haha. Too dangerous. An older computer usually can't handle the new os. Probably put Linux on my old Win 2000 PC haha.
