The Dayun Yuehu will be the cheapest practical #EV in #SouthAfrica at under R400,000.
It is claimed to have a 330 km range and a top speed of 100 km/h, making it suitable as an urban commuter.
It's going to be very interesting to see how this does in SA, as the price is nearing affordable, and it is faster than the 80 km/h that smaller EVs tend to have.
Is this still with the high EV import tax I wonder...
@danie10 What is the EV import tax, Danie? The market the Chinese brands have created make that cost seem high for a pure city car, restricted in performance in that way.
But maybe this is a well researched offering and meets a local demand.
@withaveeay not sure the exact percentage off the top of my head but it is higher (about 25% I recall plus a luxury goods tax brings it to about 42%) than for ICE vehicle (18%) imports, and has still not been adjusted downwards like with other countries. So we are literally penalised to by EVs right now.
The general highway speeds inside a city are 80 km/h by us so that really covers 95% of a major city. For freeways of 120 km/h the minimum speed is 60 km km/h which this surpasses quite comfortably. Rush hour traffic crawls along at less than 20 km/h even on freeways so this is actually all just fine.
