A friend of mine heard me complaining about this and emailed his city councilor who says that they're going to be adding that feature sometime in 2024 and are waiting for a contract to be finalized with moneris
@igmrlm banks will always kneecap the debit system and encourage the credit card system as much as possible.
They love the credit card system, with it's debt trap, >20% interest, and fees calculated as a percentage of the transaction total, above a minimum. The Apple/Paypal/Google systems are built on the credit card system.
Erosion of the financial industry 2.5% tax on practically every retail transaction would be a disaster for them.
@johnefrancis So I've been discovering.. I've been trying to buy a camera but it's over my debit transaction limit and it's so far been completely impossible to pay for it.. The bank has been refusing to increase my transaction limit and I'm going to have to wait 8 to 10 days to find out whether or not I can get a prepaid card through the bank..
@igmrlm ugh. I remember getting a temporary limit increase before, I think I can even set it via online banking. But I think they have a system limit of $10k. So when I bought a car recently, I had to bring a paper bank draft.
Maybe try a e-transfer? I think the limits can be quite high on those.
