@ai6yr

They really don't seem to see the fundamental contradiction here:

"“Viral fragments detected after pasteurization are nothing more than evidence that the virus is dead; they have zero impact on human health. Further, the federal PMO prohibits milk from sick cows from entering the food supply chain."

Like we're supposed to be reassured by the sick cow regulations which obviously aren't working? 🤔

ai6yr,

@me_valentijn Yep.... clearly there are sick cows in the system already!

ai6yr,

"Prior to Tuesday's announcement, HPAI H5N1 in livestock was not currently a reportable disease.

“It's not a foreign animal disease in dairy, like it's considered in poultry -- same virus -- but in poultry, there are reporting requirements. This is considered an emerging disease (in dairy cattle). And with that, there are no reporting requirements,” one source told Farm Journal. "

ai6yr,
  • looks like pasteurization was the last line of defense here, which is not good, and the traces of H5N1 in milk were very widespread -- 38% out of 150 samples taken from retail stores.

Article: "Virus Material Found in 38% of Retail Milk Samples at Lab ... “We've tested 150 samples, 58 of those have tested positive to date,” says Bowman. “We've screened them for the presence of influenza genetic material, so the viral RNA. Those that have tested positive,... . To date, none of them have been viable, but certainly they give the indication that there is viral genetic material in the region.” "

@ai6yr
I'm H5N1 intolerant so goodby dairy. And chicken. And beef.

What's left?
Mmmmm. Cordyceps.

ai6yr,

@chris This sucks, I eat a lot of eggs, and typically not well cooked. 😬

Thinking maybe will go to scrambled vs. lightly sunny side up until this thing passes...

@ai6yr
First, thanks for posting all the updates.

I was cogitating this morning on going back to vegetarian.

Feeding cow brains and spines to other cows led to prions in the food chain, now we learn "chicken litter" is fed to cows and suddenly bits of H5N1 are showing up all over the place.

We'll be back in Cali soon, land of the ubiquitous certified organic farmers market.

ai6yr,

@chris Sure seems like our industrial meat system has introduced a lot of risks... Prions are scary things, I really do wonder how they evolved...
