Lemme get this straight, #BetterHelp helped themselves to $80 out of my account every month for several months while I dealt with undiagnosed #ADHD with no help from them (kinda hard to get treatment when you have to initiate all of the communication and you have raging ADHD). The US FTC sued them and all I get back is $9.70?

Good grief.

OH SNAP, they got sued for selling customer's data TO FACEBOOK. WOW! WHAT A PARAGON OF VIRTUE.

BetterHelp. More like GetShafted.

    @justincroser

    Oh, I thought it was the FTC directly. Oh well.

    @RL_Dane WTF they did what?! This is outrageous. Has this affected EU citizens as well? Because (allegedly) transferring health data to advertisers without informed consent is illegal af over here and could result in major fines. That FTC settlement sounds like a joke for what is alleged, especially when you take the size of their parent company into account. And I guess my personal policy of never trusting a company that rolls wide-spread YouTube sponsorships still holds...

    @lhinderberger

    Somehow they weaseled out of abiding by HIPAA compliance, which is the closest thing we have to actual privacy protections in the U.S.

    @RL_Dane it's not that I want to defend such a despicable company.

    But if you had gone to an IRL psychologist/therapist, wouldn't it be your job to go to their place as well?

    I know that if BetterHelp or any app bothered me with notifications I would just disable them lol. Would you have accepted those, so they can be the ones who initiate the conversation?

    @joel

    I think the difference is that if I forget to go to a therapist's appointment, I'd be on the hook for 2x a single appointment, and then that would be it until I called back and said, "sorry I forgot," or whatever, and set up more appointments.

    With BH, it was way more open-ended, and if you're not initiating the conversation (because the therapist is just a chat line, and you don't have appointments unless you request one), you were literally paying for nothing. They never stop billing

    @RL_Dane It is definitely abusive but pretty much every subscription based service hopes you forget you're paying for it, regardless of other conditions.

    It's really bad for a company in this field and the premise of literally being helpful tho, urgh

    Exactly. And for them to sell your data to FB on top of all of it.

    Get my pitchfork.

    @RL_Dane Yeah. Total BS

    I honestly feel like refusing the $9.70 payout. It feels like an insult. Companies that do that kind of crap should be utterly liquidated.
