Mount Bromo in East Java, Indonesia
If someone ever asked me if I wanted to ride my bike in a volcano crater, I wouldn't know what to say. But now I'd say "yep".

otl,

Seems like some good improvements to internals about which I'm not a strong enough programmer to understand.

otl,

"Australia's transition to a cashless society". Misleading headline; the article is reporting on a relative decline in the number of cash transactions. Don't think there's been any policy or legislation on phasing out cash.

otl,

Maybe. How many businesses are refusing cash? Could they refuse cash? The article does not cover this. I found this piece insightful: https://nitter.net/CBSMornings/status/1185527270125002752

otl,

This happened to me at a supermarket for Royal Far West. They insisted I sign up with my phone number and email address. They actually refused to take my coins! Apparently I could make an 'anonymous' donation via paypal on their website but I never bothered.

Here's an example of logical comparisons and arithmetic in rc without them as first-class features, from a script I use to generate passwords

https://paste.sr.ht/~sircmpwn/cbe2b6c95df5d46ed8c095b03964eadcdf0d1e4a

How palatable would this be to you?

otl,

@drewdevault Disclaimer: several years' plan9port user. Something I've noticed is beginners not using bash et al. arithmetic built-ins and instead using bc or dc. It seems only later do they learn more "advanced" (unnecessary? ;) ) shell features.
