I have this whole pile of food packaging cartons in the kitchen and it looks bad but they get reused for biowaste disposal

I have to go back to counting calories for a few weeks, gotta lose some 8 kg or so.

It's very hard not to gain weight when cycling as you just overeat on off-days (~2k kcal) because you get used to massive food supplies you need on cycling days (~3k kcal)

I think I have too many clothes. I really need to give away 50% or so. My signal to wash my laundry is having run out of clothes and if that ends up with 3 loads of laundry that's just exhausting and takes over a week.

juliank,
@juliank@mastodon.social avatar

@agavi I use that for my cycling clothes often, 15 mins without heat or detergent after each ride, but also they get at least a weekly 1 or 2 hour wash with det at 20°C.

Regular clothing goes in at 20,40,60°C for 2 hours and the 60°C clothing also gets dried for another 5 hours or so.

I'd like to wash more at 20°C but end up washing at 40°C because the laundry feels like it's been breeding bacteria for months in the laundry bag.

Angry gyros penne

Ran out of time to make dinner, but wanted tomatoes and protein. Sigh. Quickly thin sliced some tofu, fried it in extra virgin olive oil, added Greek gyros spices and a shallot, and then continued as when making arrabbiata with a chili, and a can of San Marzano tomatoes.

After plating threw on some extra evoo.

Brötchen (bread rolls)

Lots of blistering, sides went up and lost contact with the baking steel.

I reshaped two of them this morning which lead to worse results than just using them as shaped last night.

There is no cut on the top side, and it's top side up, so it's overall baked more like a ciabatta, and made from pizza dough. But it's round.

There's a myth that barefoot shoes have wider toe boxes.

That's not necessarily accurate. Barefoot shoes essentially have the same shape as normal shoes, they just cut off earlier instead of pushing a huge arc in the front.

Desperately awaiting some shoes to be sent out because right now I'm basically down to fresh boots which don't fit well with shorts, and crappy old shoes which make my joints unhappy.

Don't understand folding bikes with round seat posts fwiw. Having the seat straight is absolutely vital.

I once loosened the seat post on a bike of mine only to spend like half an hour trying to get the saddle aligned straight again.

Well really all bikes should have D shape seat posts.

juliank,
@juliank@mastodon.social avatar

Oh I think I also losed a break lever once and then spent half an hour trying to get it back into the right angle on a stick-like handlebar.

Mere mms of rotations make a world of difference.

juliank,
@juliank@mastodon.social avatar

@andrew_shadura You can have a groove at the straight location and the fold one such that you always get back to the same angle at mm accuracy.

FWIW, looking at the development for the brompton gearing options, the 6 speeds is ok, and the rest is just batshit.

The Urban model with 2 gears can go up a hill and down a hill but struggles on flats.

The 3 gear models can't go up a hill at all, and only do flats and downhills.

juliank,
@juliank@mastodon.social avatar

I mean with 3.82m of development at the smallest, the 3 gear model can't go lower than like 18 km/h even when pedaling at mind bending slow 80 rpm.

DO NOT BUY HP PRINTERS!

I don't believe I've ever seen a more from a .

If you buy an and sign up for the optional HP Plus , you'll get a that will FORCE you to only new HP cartridges — for the life of your printer. And once that firmware update happens, there is no way to undo it.

DO NOT BUY HP PRINTERS!

https://www.theverge.com/2023/5/25/23736811/hp-plus-printer-ink-drm-firmware-update-cant-cancel
HP has found an exciting new way to your printer

screenshot from the article "Here are a few choice quotes from the terms and conditions for HP’s ink service that I think you’ll appreciate (bolding mine): "You expressly allow HP to remotely change, patch, update or otherwise modify Your printer’s software, firmware or programming remotely, without notice to You, in order to provide the Service to You or to comply with applicable laws "Remote monitoring may include provision to HP of one or more of: page counts, types of documents printed (e.g., Word, PowerPoint, pdf, jpeg, etc.), types of devices that initiated print jobs, printer serial number, cartridge information (e.g. HP original cartridge status, and whether the cartridge was new or used at the time of its last insertion into the printer), and other similar types of metrics related to your Service as may be added by HP from time to time "You agree to maintain connectivity of Your Printer to the Internet and to not remove or disable any remote monitoring software or functionality on Your Printer."
screenshot from the article "If Your printer is not connected to the Internet, then the Subscription Cartridges (as defined in section d. below) will be disabled, and You will not be able to use them to print; however, You will continue to be charged for the Service as described in Section 7 (“Paying for Your Service”). In order to reactivate disabled cartridges, You will need to reconnect Your printer to the Internet and keep it connected "When Your Service is cancelled for any reason, HP will remotely disable the Subscription Cartridges and You will no longer be able to print with the Subscription Cartridges. In such a case, you will need to purchase a regular HP cartridge compatible with your printer, in order to continue printing "HP may increase or otherwise change the Service Plan Fee and Overage Fee, and add additional fees, for any Service Plan, or otherwise change or add Service Plans at any time in HP’s sole discretion with prior notice to You."

@IAmDannyBoling Given the choice between a 50€ printer and a 200€ printer with cheaper ink and an expected life time of 1-2 years, it quite frankly doesn't make sense to buy the expensive one unless you print a lot.

I made that calculation when my parents last printer died, and the cheap printer had far cheaper TCO even with instant ink. So instant ink it was.

Things took an unexpected turn as the printer is now 5 or something years old, something I've never seen happen before.

juliank,
@juliank@mastodon.social avatar

@IAmDannyBoling I just looked and this cheap Envy 4522 they have with instant ink has been activated since May 2016. That's 7 years.

Color cartridges fail a bunch of times and instant ink sends new one but otherwise no hickups.

The previous one was basically the same model and lasted a year or so. Never in my life would I have expected an HP crap inkjet printer to last 7 years.

juliank,
@juliank@mastodon.social avatar

@IAmDannyBoling To put it another way I'm not sure there isn't foul play here and HP just bricks printers that don't have a subscription.
