joe, to wisconsin in Microsoft, State Announcing Massive Data Center Expansion, Land Purchase

@rasterweb I've been told that it's going to be a “lights out data center” so nobody is going to actually work there (beyond maybe some security guards). If this helps cover all of the money Mount Pleasant plowed into developing the site, that's a good thing.

joe, to milwaukee in Study: Milwaukee's downtown foot traffic recovery among the best in the Midwest

@quicksand @hukaulaba The larger employers in downtown Milwaukee (folks like northwestern mutual) are starting to mandate that people work a certain number of days per week from the office. That makes a difference.

I was just at downtown employee appreciation week lunch at Schlitz Park yesterday and I was a little surprised how many people were there. I would put it at a few hundred.

joe, to milwaukee in Speeding drivers hit Milwaukee woman's property twice in 7 months

@eosha @mke_geek I know someone who lives an old farmhouse in Glendale, and the road curves around the front of the house in a way where if you are going straight down the road and you aren't paying attention, your car will be in his laundry room. He was telling me at one point that buying a boulder to put between his house and the road was cheap enough but shipping was a problem.

joe, to milwaukee in Donors Interested in Saving Mitchell Park | But not necessarily saving the domes. Local supervisor, Parks and philanthropic community moving toward a new Mitchell Park project.

@Salad_Fries @hukaulaba The style of the domes is very mid-century and very experimental (usually when you do a domed structure, you don't have it primarily made out of concrete). I'm sure that you can build something better using modern techniques, but it is less of a case of utility and more of a case of uniqueness. There are a lot of structures in #Milwaukee's past that I wish were still around, but somebody at some point made the determination that it was more functional to demolish it.
