Are there any cheap domain registrars that have monthly payments?

I read an article saying NameCheap did, but I couldn't find the option, so I can only assume they removed it.

chikorita157,
@chikorita157@sakurajima.moe avatar

@dopey_kun I'm not aware of any. Most if not all require you to pay yearly, which in reality isn't too bad. I think this is the case because domains are required for a year term. I don't think I ever heard of the ability to register a domain and pay it monthly as it's always a yearly thing.

The production problems with Sasayaku You ni wo Utau isn’t the first, but certainly won't be the last.

We know how disastrous Marchen Madchen's anime production was in 2018. It's a shame that any anime adaptation doesn't get at least a decent production that has a chance to possibly get another installment or sell more copies of the source material.

But instances like these won’t be the last, until something breaks or the workers decide to unionize. This is just not sustainable

Sasayaku You ni Koi wo Utau Production Problems (Full Text)

While not posted here on the Fediverse, a user on the :deadbird: site has gotten in contact with a user to leak the problems the staff are working with while producing the anime. (Note: Some spelling corrections, source from Patstar_1999, OCR in text form) I may write a follow up editorial post on this over on my main blog at a future date.

Now updated with rebuttals.

chikorita157,
@chikorita157@sakurajima.moe avatar

@mofumofu That is why I take it with a grain of salt since it’s a “leak” after all. Outsourcing for the most part happen to all productions, even some known studios as well.

I wonder if there is more reliable accounts in the industry that give the full picture of what is actually happening.

chikorita157,
@chikorita157@sakurajima.moe avatar

@lethekazhorai Interesting that the credits does not match up the allegations in the Twitter thread, which is why I’m pretty skeptical, although the production was delayed by at least three months.

I wonder if @kbnet would know more about this since he focuses on some animation stuff.

But given it's the deadbirdsite and leaks, I think people should take any allegations here with a grain of salt, but of course the animation quality issues are of course apparent, but there is probably something more to the story than this unreliable account provides, although it might seem plausible.

With the Japanese version of Magia Record shutting down at the end of July, here is my editorial I wrote a few years back on the gripes of Gacha/Live services games.

https://chikorita157.com/2020/09/10/the-dark-downsides-of-gacha-mobile-games-and-gaming-as-a-service/

I think Uma Musume will be the last one I'm playing. I think I'm going to stick with actual games for now on that won't poof in thin air.

Ordered a SATA PCI adapter, the Rabbit Hole Computing one that is easy to flash with the Firmtek firmware to make it bootable for Mac OS 9 or lower. I plan to replace the PSU with the Corsair one in the PowerCenter 150 since it basically uses an off the shelf ATX PSU.

Yep, we are going to make a semi-extreme build, putting in actual SSD, maxing out the RAM, adding a fast video card, and a G3 accelerator. Sourcing the 128 MB 5V FPM DIMM RAM sticks might be the hard to find, without paying a lot for them.

@lethekazhorai@sakurajima.moe avatar

Huh, Magia Record is shutting down. Now that's a surprise, I thought it was still doing okay in Japan... not great, but okay.

Of course its replacement, Magia Exedra, is already on its way. Maybe they thought that shutting MagiReco down the moment the new game launched would upset the players and make them refuse to try Exedra, so decided to do it a bit early.

chikorita157,
@chikorita157@sakurajima.moe avatar

@lethekazhorai That is a surprise to, given that I still kind of play it, but then again, since the main stories were complete like a year ago and they probably wrapped up the “prequel” one, it’s only a matter of time along with the replacement.

Still, had a bitter taste when the English Magia Record shut down after a year, though.

My mom's backup old-phone as an MP3-player is a really old Xiaomi Redmi, and the phone basically self-destructed today. The Xiaomi account got suspended, the Xiaomi browser crashes after a few seconds, playing local mp3s just crashes.

I get that it's so old that it should be End-Of-Life, but just brick the phone by self-destructing all the features thru the internet is a very annoying thing.

@anianimalsmoe I think just installing a new macOS with Legacy OpenCore is better plan, given that macOS doesn’t generally change that much, and Apple tends to not make drastic changes.

Sure, people say switch to Linux, but it’s not for everyone, especially senior citizens having to learn a new interface.

That said, my father somehow manages to use a Mac and an iPad, and he is from the Silent Generation. He didn’t start using computers until the early 2010s to watch Youtube and basic web browsing.

This is the problem with tech these days, and planned obsolesce., which only contributes more to the ewaste problem

No wonder @yon regrets having an iPad. iPadOS is a mess, although I use an iPad and it’s okay for my uses. Still, not finding a compelling reason to upgrade to an M4, when an M1 does 100% what I do, but without an OLED screen. Even the M1 is still overkill.

@tanoshimi @yon 11 Inch is my just right size, I can’t imagine using a 13 inch iPad Air or Pro, that is way too big.

I have a 9.8 inch iPad Pro, which was also good, and got me back into iPads after using a Surface Pro 2 for a while. Not making that mistake again.

@fujiwara Yep, it's the best Paper Mario installment besides the original. It's sad that the future installments weren't as good, although Super Paper Mario had its funny moments.

@yon Apparently, I bought a Mac Clone off a Retro Mac forum. Not an 8600/9600, but one of those Power Computing Mac clones, and it is one of those models that used the same processor daughter card despite the logic board being based off a Power Macintosh 7200 design.

More on it later, but it looks like the RAM is the only thing I need to get since it has a SCSI2SD, although is it better to use a BlueSCSI one instead?

Also, it supports BeOS.

chikorita157,
@chikorita157@sakurajima.moe avatar

@yon I think one of the pluses is that it uses standard ATX PSU, so you can just slap a more modern one, but the 5V rail on modern ones can be a problem, I think more so with mechanical drives.

Yes, those goes for over 300 on Ebay. But it was tested working. It is the midrange model, I know Action Retro reviewed a higher end one, which has more memory slots. The PowerCenter 150 only has four slots, but apparently uses the same processor card slot on the higher end since the back looks very familiar.

Should be interesting to see how a SCSI2SD work and compare. If I don't like it, I may just switch to a BlueSCSI. Might be able to find a standard 3d print model one.

I plan to just install the Rage 128 I got from the Power Mac G3 B&W since that has a flashed Radeon 7000, and probably get the Rabbit Hole Computing SATA card for a SATA SSD if I really need it.

chikorita157,
@chikorita157@sakurajima.moe avatar

@yon It reminds me, I probably need to somehow get a ATX PSU in a 8100. I know there is an adapter I can make, but I wonder what PSU I can fix in that case.

Also, nice not having to deal with Spindler plastics. I can't believe Apple cheap out on the plastics as the plastics on the Performa 630 broke easily. No wonder Mac Clones look appealing, since the most important part isn't made out of plastic, although they look like a PC.

chikorita157,
@chikorita157@sakurajima.moe avatar

@yon I have a 2000 iMac I got from my relatives in 2008 along with a G3 B&W. Yes, the plastic frame on the iMac was all cracked.

ABS plastics. :facepalm_cirno:

@smochi @yon Not quite a Macintosh tough, although Apple II clones are a thing, along with the unauthorized 68k Mac clones, which are probably even rarer than the official clones, which are pretty rare, but interesting machines as not only they are built better than Apple's offering quality and speed wise, but also cheaper?

The Macs from the early and mid 90s had poor quality plastics that when it age, would break off easily.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Macintosh_clone

chikorita157,
@chikorita157@sakurajima.moe avatar

@yon @smochi I think the tough part is that it uses a different layout for it’s ports that are not... ATX like and Nubus slots are different height from PCI ones and a bit wider, could be wrong though.

chikorita157,
@chikorita157@sakurajima.moe avatar

@yon @smochi Probably not most of the Power Computing ones as the PowerCenter and PowerWave use a raiser. The PowerTower and even the UMax Supermac S900, most likely

You might even be able to put a PowerMac G4 in a PC case if you really wanted to.

@chikorita157 Read rumors of Apple "adding" ChatGPT to iOS18. Would be insanely disappointing if that's true. I don't want anything of mine to be sent out and processed, especially without my consent/knowledge.
