I love having multiple phones because it allows me to test multiple versions of iOS. I've been extensively testing iOS 17 which has been a lot of fun. But I have another phone which can't run iOS 17 so have been beta testing 16.6. And it seems really, really good. This is a weird question I know, but is anyone else testing 16.6 or is everyone basically just on 17? To me, I notice what feels like a lot of general polish to issues that had been there for a long time in 16. Thoughts?

Ok so I just put in the following into the NVDA Python Console, and nearly all of NVDA's weird regressions are gone! UIAHandler.badUIAWindowClassNames = UIAHandler.badUIAWindowClassNames + ("SysListView32", "DirectUIHWND", "msctls_trackbar32",) This even makes the UAC slider track correctly.

Uh-oh. Um. I, think my 2013 desktop just literally stopped working today. It clicks, but it doesn't come up.

Ok. Paranoid. Why is it spelled that way, when a lot of other words like that end in ED? Distracted, confused, frustrated, etc. Paranoid. P A R A N O I D. Or is paranoid technically not a past tense word? Either way, English is weird.

So I tried my replacement OrCam and I'm just as disappointed. As the barcode reader was not providing very good results, I tried the text reading, and some original Kirklin Almond Milk read as: Original Kirklin. Gin. Unswee. Ok, not impressed at all.

Wow, the fix for NVDA freezing when an app goes not responding is working really well. I'm running an operation on my ProBook that previously caused NVDA to completely freeze, and now it recovers after about a second and I can continue working while the task completes.

What's the latest budget Google #Android phone? I'm considering picking one up just to try Google Lookout. I'm ready to be super independent with finding things and want to gain exposure to different things to see what works best. I tried Seeing AI's barcode recognition and I struggled with that too, but based off the demo of the Google Lookout app, I'm thinking its audio hints might be better.

I'm not a heavy Braille user on #iOS so it could just be me but, is it just me or do Braille displays on iOS legitimately not work very well? In 16.7.2, the cursor jumped around the screen when trying to type an email unless I manually changed to eight-dot computer Braille, and on 17, while I don't have that problem anymore, my Braille display (a BrailleNote Apex) doesn't work correctly when the phone unlocks. Braille just doesn't seem to work nearly as well as it did, say, in iOS 12. But then again, neither does iOS as a whole. #Accessibility #VoiceOver #Braille #BrailleDisplay

Me and @datajake1999 were having some fun and we did... this.

Well, looks like I'm gonna be using my Mac way more next year because... the one site keeping my sanity for doing email on Windows is apparently getting killed off and I'm not gonna use this new awesome fancy pretty ooh cool look at this new thing called Outlook for Windows because of course Windows has to kill off the one good modern Mail app that (for me) just worked.

So I'm trying to find a good vacuum cleaner and am wondering what people have used. I currently have a cordless one but I'm just curious what others have used. Thanks.

I don't understand how people can keep 62 tabs open in their browser and not be ready to shoot themselves. I would feel so overwhelmed. Is there a good way to do this?

Something I just got thinking about: A day has 24 hours. But in places that observe daylight saving time, the time goes back one hour at 2:00 AM. Conversely, when we switch and move forward an hour, that also happens at 2:00 AM. Does this mean that at each of these times that when we move back an hour, that day has 25 hours, and when we move forward, that day then has only 23 hours?

Yay, I think I'm getting a new computer to replace my ProBook.

On a clean run of Firefox, I'm getting a certificate error saying potential security risk ahead when I try to go to tech.aph.org and I'm confused as to why. It does not happen on Edge. Is this something specific with my system or something I should be concerned about? I'm concerned that something's up with my system. Thanks.

Ok, so the mute switch doesn't work in beta 4 if you have VO on, and when on mute nothing is read when the lock screen appears with no notifications. This suggests that maybe they're trying to fix the issues with VoiceOver and silent mode, because it seems weird that this would just randomly break.

Some of my family members have ringtones set as custom text tones for some of their contacts. But #iOS 17 doesn't allow you to set ringtones as text tones anymore, so does anyone know what will happen once this person updates their phone to iOS 17? Will their preference still be preserved?

I wonder if it's time to start using another Mastodon app for iOS. Metatext started retrieving my home timeline again but I'm still having issues switching to the Notifications tab. I still get the push notifications, I just can't switch to the tab in the UI.

If pronunciation is really important to you, I would move to #iOS 16.7 and use that until further notice, as all voices have pronunciation issues to some degree in iOS 17, some more than others. Yes, even Vocalizer is slightly impacted, and Eloquence has it the worst.

Really disappointed about the deprecation of WordPad. Sure, I don't use it much, but at least it was an option for reading rich text files without having to be online and pay for stuff. Hopefully the WordPad engine will still be there and it's just the app, but I hope people are really loud about this.

Is anyone here using an iPhone SE (second generation)? If so, I'm curious about your experiences if you don't use Vocalizer with VoiceOver. Thanks.

On the Freedom Scientific Previous Downloads for JAWS page, they have code that can detect if you're on a 64-bit or 32-bit system, and I can't figure out what they're doing by looking at the source. Does anyone know ways to do this? I just think it's interesting that this can be done, and I might want to use this for something at some point.

Ok, this ProBook's done. It just crashed on Win10.

I wish iPhones didn't come with Pages and all the other apps like GarageBand. They could save so much space by not including them. I remember when I got my 2016 SE and it didn't come with any of that.
