The Robotron A5120 is a historic East German computer produced in the 1980s by VEB Robotron. 🚀 You might recall spotting it in the thrilling #deutschland83 TV series. ✨
State of the second festivity days tech project, trying to get a Robotron EC1834 (East German 8086 clone) to work:
The system seems to run, but no usable monitor output from the monitor. Recent VGA monitors can not display that CGA/EGA signal, so I got a MCA2HDMI device. With that, I see that there is "something", but still not a sync and clear signal.
Needs more research. https://github.com/hoglet67/RGBtoHDMI/issues/357 @tagon#retro#robotron
#BlastFromThePast. Typing so fast&furiously that you are in the root directory & type
rm . * . 😱
Luckily you regularly play #VideoGames with the head SystemsProgrammerAnalyst & can go grovel meekly &get all your files restored quickly. And then go play video games & laugh about it all. #GoodTimes
Doug used to come by & clink quarters by my ear as an invitation to go play. Those were the days of #Qbert and #Robotron.
I'm in Germany for a bit, and trying to get to run the #Robotron EC1834 from the attic.
It's an 8086 clone from former East Germany, the 8086 cpu was produced by Siemens and imported. 20MB disk with hand written sector details. 5.25" floppy, colour video card. Interesting interface to the extension cards, no normal ISA slots.
sub9 connector exists, but no serial access, that's V24 modem.
The monitor (K7229.25) seems broken, probably best to try to get somehow else access to the video signal.
I've listened to the first hour of the two-part podcast interview with Eugene Jarvis ( #atari#pinball#defender#robotron ) on the Ted Dabney Experience podcast. This is really great stuff.
