Violence has erupted at Israel's annual Jerusalem Day march, with some Jewish Israelis attacking Palestinians and journalists.
ABC reporter Allyson Horn, who was abused at the scene, says the ongoing Israel-Gaza war has spurred hostilities to a different level at this year’s event.
Even before the march began, confrontations erupted inside the Old City, with groups of young right-wing Jews attacking Palestinians and journalists.
"You can’t seek to curb the voices of critics of Israel, stay quiet about an Australian murdered by the IDF, isolate and punish pro-Palestinian MPs, and preside over handing nearly a billion dollars to a company complicit in the slaughter of Palestinians, and then complain about the Greens attacking you. Labor would prefer that silence reigned over both Israel’s atrocities in Gaza and Australia’s links with Israeli companies. The Greens, rightly, want to yell about it."

Slovenia has approved, with a majority vote in the parliament, a decision to recognise Palestine as an independent state.

This comes as support for Palestine appears to be growing in Europe where more states are adopting this move to pressure Israel to end the conflict in Gaza.
