THE EVIL DEAD is probably one of my absolute favorites. While I do give the edge to 2, it’s only because I enjoy the humor. This movie was a landmark in horror. It was a cutting edge film for 83 that still looks great today. The film feels just as unhinged and chaotic as the first time I watched it.
FROM DUSK TILL DAWN is one of my unholy trinity of vampire films (LOST BOYS / NEAR DARK). There’s so much love about this movie. The cinematography is crisp and frenetic. The dialog is smart, edgy, full of pop. And that soundtrack! As if that wasn’t enough, Tom Savini and some hack named Clooney.
US is one of the most intense films I’ve ever watched. The suspense is agonizing. It’s got a beautiful score. The violence is unexpected and savage. I love that Peele’s work is an homage to the directors and stories that inspired him. I do believe I enjoyed this a bit more than GET OUT. The film has moments of pure evil.
ARMY OF DARKNESS is one of my favorite films. I had a black market copy with Japanese subtitles before they finally released a DVD. I would also bet it’s the movie I’ve probably watched the most. The film is so ridiculous but also full of violence, punchy one liners, and an awesome body count. I love that the series will forever have this darling comedy. It’s such a unique part of the franchise.
FRIDAY THE 13TH PART 3 is the movie that created the hockey mask legacy. This film was shot with 3D in mind. While those moments definitely stand out, they never bothered me. I love the JAWS rip-off moment. Shelly finding the mask in the lake feels like such an organic moment. This is the film that really starts laying the groundwork. It still works today. Also, the harpoon kill is awesome.
BRIDE OF CHUCKY got me with its opening celebrating slashers. I am a complete sucker for the cheap pop. The plot is pretty twisted in the best way possible. Jennifer Tilly is so awesome in this movie. This film recaptures the unhinged feeling of the second movie. I never thought murderous demonic doll domestics could be so much fun. There’s a lot of enjoyment in all that carnage.
Yo, do folks realise the original, 1984 #TheTerminator is a #horrorfilm? A serial killer making his way down the phonebook in 80s #LosAngeles, killing white women named Sarah? The way the #TechNoir nightclub is shot? It's not an action movie by any means.
I hadn't watched it since I was a teenager and this was lost on me then.
