Jacob Collier disagrees with Rick Rubin’s philosophies: “His audience is non-creative people for whom creativity is novel”
The first time I came across #JacobCollier was toward the beginning of the #pandemic, when I found that music videos helped me deal with the dark times of that first winter. #NPR shifted their #TinyDesk series to Home, and so many #artists gave fantastic performances from their living rooms, closets, kitchens, rooftops ❤️ I found it comforting and inspiring.
It took me til nearly the end of this video before I realized what Jacob had done ;o)
Hot (extremely mild) take. A synthesizer plugin API shouldn't use western note indexes as inputs. It should use base frequencies. Also, a note-off shouldn't be referenced by frequency, but an ID given by the note-on.
That way, any scale can be represented (not just 12-note equal temperament), and individual note pitches can be changed in realtime in the DAW.
