Israeli officials anticipate that the International Court of Justice in The Hague will issue orders on Friday to halt the ongoing military conflict with Palestinian militants in Gaza, according to a senior diplomatic source. On Thursday, ICJ said it will rule on Friday on South Africa's request to order a halt to the Rafah offensive in Gaza that South Africa submitted.

Report

The International Court of Justice will rule on South Africa’s request to order a halt to Israel’s offensive on Rafah tomorrow [Friday] afternoon.

The demand is part of a larger case brought by South Africa accusing Israel of genocide.

After initial hearings in January, the ICJ issued several provisional measures, ordering Israel to take action to limit humanitarian suffering in Gaza.

"The ICC considers cases against individuals and as such has to be distinguished from the International Court of Justice, which rules on disputes between states, such as the case brought by South Africa against Israel in January 2024 under the 1948 Genocide Convention."
