No company becomes relevant by chasing after the zeitgeist. That just screams "Me too!"

And the AI landscape is flooded with copycats right now.

To be fair, Meta is trying to innovate by pushing the Metaverse. But the problem is that the Metaverse will not be viable for a long, long time -- and Meta knows it.

Meta is also very aware of the Fediverse. This is why they're building #Barcelona, which is likely to use ActivityPub.

The biggest problem with Meta isn't "relevancy". It's employee morale. They've spent the last 6 months laying off a substantial number of staff.

I don't know how many Meta employees feel all that motivated to do anything.

@atomicpoet @socialmedianews Being a jaded old codger, I thought zeitgeist chasing was reserved to the social media platforms. I'm more used to the idea that companies exist to create and sell products and services. "Zeitgeist" is basically for those who engage in sales of image or brand. There needs to be a purpose, and that's why I think Meta is ultimately going to fail...
