Fonderthud,

Trails have been so darn wet around me I’ve only gotten out for 1-2 runs a week, probably for the best since I jumped right back to 5k for base runs after taking the winter off. Hopefully things dry out, I want mileage again. Spending a long Saturday morning running trails is just fantastic to me.

I live in a suburb in inner Melbourne. There’s one river trail near me, but I wish there were more trail running options locally. We go camping in the hills/coastal area/forested areas fairly often, and the trail running whilst there is such a highlight of the trips for me.

Fonderthud,

More power to you, I cant stand pavement or treadmills access to trails is the only reason Im able to run with any consistency.

MadBabs,

I ran my first half marathon today. It went great! I beat my time goal and was just a few minutes off my secondary goal. And it felt good. It felt really good.

fivemmvegemite,

Cold weather is back and I’m enjoying having a lower overall HR while running. Getting more accustomed to using gels while running (I still stop and walk). I am slowly getting my weekly mileage back up to similar levels before I got sick in March.

UFODivebomb,

Got a new pair of Salomon Speedcross shoes. My 5th pair of this same model.

Secret300,

Haven’t ran in years but I went on a walk today…

SyntheticBlood,

I started running in Feb again after taking a year off (I was busy with my 2 kids). It’s so great to get back in the groove. I don’t have time to commit to longer distances, but I get a solid 30 minutes, 5 days a week in the mornings. I’m starting to get faster and go further. It’s amazing how easily it can be to lose all progress. When I started again I was struggling to do a mile at 11min pace! Now I’m doing 3mi at 9 min

Lizardking13,

Haven’t been able to run for about 2 months. Injured my ankle training for LA. Unfortunate and at this point it’s wearing on me. Hoping to get back to it in May.

sandalbucket,

Just got back from a week long work trip. I had everything I needed to run, except the mental game. I slept in. I did get a single late-night run in after the cigar bar; it sucked. Constant side stitches and cigar mouth made every inhale yucky.

I got back yesterday, and cleaned some earbuds - did my first run with music. Managed to keep a sub-9 (8:55 is technically sub 9!) pace for an hour; did 6.75 miles. Having music is incredible for the mental game.

Today I’ll try to do it again, and tomorrow is gear testing day. I’ll be the weirdest guy at the gym, running 10 miles on the treadmill at a steep incline with a backpack on. They’ll probably think I’m a prepper or something. At least I won’t have the altitude mask on lol

dshank,

Just ran in a 5k this morning! I’ve only been running since December so I’m not all that fast yet but it feels good to see progress in both speed and endurance

sandalbucket,

Hell yeah! I’ve only been running since January, so you’ve got a month up on me :)

SyntheticBlood,

I’ve only been running since February! You’ve got a month on me!

MadBabs,

I’m a year ahead of you and I just finished my first half today. You’ll be amazed at where you can be a year from now!

InquisitiveApathy,

Shin splints suck. I can’t seem to gauge when I’m fully healed so I’ve been out of commission for a while from exacerbating it after I thought I was okay to run again.

It sucks even more because I just found and joined the local running club and can’t join in on the fun.

sandalbucket,

That really sucks.

I have heard that rowing is a good way to keep the cardio up when the legs are down for the count

InquisitiveApathy,

Any low-impact cardio will work as a substitute if you’re also ever in this situation. Swimming and biking tend to be the most popular alternatives, but I don’t have easy access to either unfortunately.

SyntheticBlood,

Posterior or anterior shin splits. I suffered from posterior shin splits for years! Finally over them now

InquisitiveApathy,

Anterior. I can’t even imagine how agonizing posterior ones must feel, but I’m glad that life is behind you! Hopefully I’ll be joining you soon in a few more weeks.

fivemmvegemite,

Take it slow and gentle. If you can go see a physio who can help with the recovery side of things.

surely_not_a_bot,

Still going for my personal 5K season. Have a race tomorrow. Lowkey expecting a PB (under 21m:18s) but not ready for my ultimate goal yet (under 20m). Will be a good benchmark though, learned (and hopefully improved) a few things after the last race.

InquisitiveApathy,

It all about pacing and knowing when to push yourself. Good luck in your race tomorrow!

Getting back in the rhythm of running every second day after a bit of a break… Missed my run this morning though, so I’ll go tomorrow, promise.

As promised, just got back now. Found a section of the creek where the doggo could run off lead, so that was great fun. Very humid here this morning though, so I’m a standing shower right now - doggo jumped in the creek numerous times.
