Ubuntu Cinnamon can easily be styled to look just like Mint.

Ubuntu Cinnamon 23.04 (Lunar Lobster)

Ubuntu Cinnamon 23.10 (Mantic Minotaur) Daily Build

Ubuntu Cinnamon 20.04.5 LTS

I personally remove the snaps, add flatpak, and that's it. Once you've styled it, you wouldn't know the difference.

Isn't it simpler to install #LinuxMint directly?

josefgarvi,

@Linux_Is_Best Yes, thank you. I was responding to the thread.

If you want to add Mint's apps, there is a PPA for that too.

Thanks to the good folks at @omgubuntu for pointing that out.

Mint isn't something I recommend to newbies, and although I'm not one, I wouldn't use it for the instability.

Mint's Ubuntu flavor is a copy of a copy.

Mint is based off of Ubuntu, which is based off of Debian. Not only do you have the possibility of running into whatever is lurking in both Ubuntu and Debian, but also some unique issues added in by Mint.

You're better off using the source and adding in a few apps without every tweak or modification Mint has introduced.

That brings me to my other point....

I like their Debian edition, but they often abandon it and focus on their Ubuntu branch.

For example, I experienced a screen resolution issue that kept the display stuck at 800x600. You couldn't change the settings, because the settings were greyed out, and it wouldn't respond to the terminal either.

The issue didn't exist in Debian 10, 11, or 12 -Only LMDE 5.

If they gave LMDE more love and care, I'd recommend them.

I've been using Mint for years now with precisely zero issues. Telling people to not use Mint because of a perceived lack of stability is disingenuous. In my opinion it's one of the best distros for beginners and lazy people out there.
