Based study finds that smarter people are more likely to be vaccinated. Antivaxx losers seethe and cope after being forced to confront reality

TIN,

…Antivaxx losers seethe and cope…

Has the word “cope” changed meaning now? If so, what’s the new meaning and do we have a new word to cover the old one?

glimse,

I’m familiar with the phrase so it makes sense to me but I’m struggling to explain it…I’ll do my best.

First off “seethe and cope” is just a popular internet phrase combining two popular internet insults. “You are lying to yourself and your anger is a coping mechanism for knowing your opinions are wrong”

Coping in this context is a bad thing. Like drinking to cope with your stress. The person doesn’t have to be demonstrating anger - “seethe and cope” is just the popular phrase.

Like if someone was talking up an upcoming movie but if everything about sucked at release, instead of admitting that they were wrong they might double down and focus on whatever silver lining it has.

Or, here’s my own cope from a game I stopped playing: It may be going f2p, but at least we’ll get regular updates!

TIN,

Got it, thanks for helping!

Diabolo96,

When I see anti-vaxers I instantly think of their poor children. Having dumb AF parents is bad enough and usually means the children will suffer abuse. If their parents are also anti-vaxers then their children happen to get any disease, they’ll likely suffer a slow and horrible death.
