Watching the same show over-and-over again is one way I regulate the autistic side of my brain. But the ADHD side sure gets bored sometimes.

Do you watch any shows on repeat?

@autism101 @actuallyautistic Yes! It takes a lot of effort to get into a new show. And movies are too intense, sensory nightmares

teddy,

@autism101 @actuallyautistic it has predictability, familiarity, routine, etc. I've definitely done this before

roadriverrail,

@autism101 @actuallyautistic Guilty as charged. I've always had a small fistful of movies I rewatched again and again. I do it with TV shows, too, obviously. DS9 is probably my biggest one. Also, despite being an MST3K fan, I'll basically just rewatch the same 10 episodes again and again. I've seen "Mitchell" probably 10x more than any other MST3K episode.

As for my ADHD tendencies? Welllll...I typically do some other activity while the overly-familiar media plays.

vger,

@autism101
I don't really, though I do keep some that I really liked, just in case I need a binge. What I do like to watch regularly is professional wrestling. I like the sillyness and it kinda always is the same and feels like rewatching my favorite show, but still is always different enough to get a surprise out of it.
@actuallyautistic

theWeaver,

@autism101 @actuallyautistic my autism feels very called out right now, and my ADHD is sighing heavily

@autism101

I don't rewatch movies or shows regularly.
Even today with my memory problems, I rarely watch something more than once.
It's different with music or video games.
With video games the problem is, that at some point I'm reminded, that my lifetime is finite and that I also want to experience other games, otherwise I'd probably replay some games over and over again.
I don't know how often I've restarted games like Stardew Valley or Links Awakening.

@autism101

I think I don't like to rewatch movies or shows, because how my memory works.
When I watch something for the first time, I know what happened, but the more often I watch it, the more it feels like an "inflation of informations", like informations lose value and I remember less, the more often I watch something.
I want to keep the memory of something I watched, not lose it more and more, everytime I rewatch something.

VoxofGod,

@autism101 @actuallyautistic

Being a big fan of Teresa of Avila my evening white noise is to play Teresa de Jesus mini-series starring concha velasco on in the background while I sleep

I get to practice my Spanish a little bit get to learn about Teresa of Avila because it's a dense 8 hours

Another one is pride and prejudice

I've been watching the recruit as well, recently three times now, social dynamic shows help me understand social issues and reactions more effectively

VoxofGod,

@autism101 @actuallyautistic

But being very noise sensitive in New York City next to a subway that comes out of ground in an apartment building, it's a challenge unless I mitigate all the time so I tend to have television on all the time

I'm getting better at this though

It's an excellent white noise especially if I know what TV I am watching

Whatever noise is happening outside my rooms can be ignored because a softer noise happens inside and my brain can latch on and ignore the rest

VoxofGod,

@autism101 @actuallyautistic This technique has scared away five roommates each of them were worse than the last

@autism101 @actuallyautistic I don’t watch shows but I do reread/re-listen to book series repeatedly.

sebwhatever,

@autism101 @actuallyautistic Rupaul's Drag Race again and again.

DMAnemone,

@autism101 @actuallyautistic Bob's Burgers is my go to show. There's a few others in the rotation but Bob's is by far the most soothing.

Mhappenow,

@autism101 @actuallyautistic yes very soothing

@autism101 @actuallyautistic ST:TNG, ST:DS9, B5 and SG:SG-1 are always on rotation.

@pilum @actuallyautistic

Excellent choices! I also rewatch different ST series. I just rewatched ST:TAS. I also just finished rewatching Babylon 5, Fringe, and Elementary.

roadriverrail,

@pilum @autism101 @actuallyautistic I could basically just watch DS9 straight through, then turn around and do it again, and again and again and again, for the rest of my life, and I would consider that TV time well-spent.

wilbr,
@wilbr@glitch.social avatar

@roadriverrail @pilum @autism101 @actuallyautistic it's evergreen too, stuck on the belly of a flailing neoliberal empire. I've always been more interested in being the tavernkeeper in a fantasy story than the swordsman, Quark and Odo really flesh out the show and let us get introduced to the "regular" parts of the world that TNG really struggled to, always being on shore leave at best: visitors but not inhabitants

roadriverrail,

@wilbr @pilum @autism101 @actuallyautistic Indeed to all of this. Garak and Quark's scene about root beer is just such a perfect conversation about their experiences being stuck between larger empires, and only DS9 ever wanted to speak up for the realpolitik needed for the Federation to claim its vaunted set of values. If only Ron Moore could learn how to end a show properly.

melindrea,

@autism101 @actuallyautistic As far as I know I'm not ADHD, but I have some traits. In particular, I'm occasionally in the state of:
Watching new thing? No! I don't know what's going to happen!
Watching thing I've watched before? Not! I know what's going to happen!
