brie,

#xiaomi and #windows, a match made in hell.

I'm trying to unlock bootloader and install something more sane. But damn xiaomi wants to do it only thru windows app. Seems simple enough, register, install app, connect phone, beg to unlock, maybe they will.

”Device not recognized”. Why the unholy Gates spawn needs special drivers for every usbserial out there? But it does. And does not recognize the phone. Same phone, same cable, same computer booted into Linux — adb works, fastboot works... But the unlock needs windows app.

Install drivers from xiaomi. Not recognized. Another version. Not recognized. From Google. Not recognized. Connect to another USB port – miraculously recognized. There was much rejoicing, for a moment.

App asks to shut down phone, enter fastboot and reconnect it. This time windows apparently has no problems, at least plays some chime and does not complain. But the app adamantly stands on ”phone not connected”, because f* you user, that's why.

Even Sony, the “rootkit Sony”, same “DRM Sony” does it in more civilized way.
