I finally broke down and purchased Starfield over the weekend and started playing it. I've got about 15'ish hours into it so far and it's enjoyable.
I've been experiencing a ton of lag and freezing for several seconds, especially when fighting and just walking into new areas. I installed the DLSS mod and that has helped greatly, but still some stuttering issues along the way. All settings are on medium and drivers are fully updated. (cont...)
After installing the DLSS mod, things got a lot better, instantly. But it's mostly when walking into new areas where things have to load a bit, and when talking to people that it still lags/stutters for several seconds. Not sure what else to try as I've also set the Priority of the game for the CPU to high.
Still tinkering around and I'm sure I'll find the perfect settings in the near future. (cont...)
The game play so far is fun. It's a lot of exploring and searching around for items and loot. A bit of gun battles as well in various places, which is kind of fun.
Fighting other space ships isn't easy, I will tell you that. Most difficult thing in the game for me personally at least. I've had my ship blown up, numerous times.
I'm currently only level 7, almost 8, so still have a very long way to go within the game.(cont...)
Right now, I'd give it a 7 out of 10 and that's not including the issues with stuttering and stuff like that as I knew those things would be a problem going in until you get the settings just right.
Worth the $70 you ask? Not really sure yet, but I feel it most likely is, again, for me personally.
@cliffwade It doesn't get much better until you can start pulling in creds. Have you made it to New Atlantis? There's a dude that'll sell parts for your ship.
Best of luck deciphering all of the stats and figuring out the layout/process of building/upgrading ships...I'm still trying to figure it out 48 hours in xD
@thetolsonator I have made it to New Atlantis. I haven't gotten into the ship building stuff quite yet, but most people say it's almost not worth it due to the time it takes.
@cliffwade I'll somewhat agree, but you will get locked into fights when entering some systems and it's not fun to blow up over and over to win the fights.
To be fair, I've gone way off the deep end with exploring and not running the main quest line as much. You might run into "free ships" or get one through random events...I have not been so lucky 😅
@thetolsonator It's not fun at all. I've had it happen as well in one place.
I too won't be doing the main story too much. I've watched King Gothalion play through the entire game and know that doing the main story isn't really recommended right away in most situations.

Hmm...I think I heard someone mention those symptoms in connection with an HDD too. 🤔 It might be worth checking on your SSD performance too. 🤷♂️
@jackofallgames All of my games are installed on an NVMe drive, which is way better than an SSD drive. It's certainly not my drive causing the issue as I would never install any game on anything less than an SSD and try to always put them on NVMe drives.

Well, they're all solid state drives, but I get what you're saying. Unless you're somehow saturating its bandwidth, yeah, probably not that. 🤔
Well, that's my only idea. 🤷♂️ I hope you're able to find the bottleneck!
@jackofallgames Thanks. I'm sure playing around with a few more settings will get it squared away. It's not horribly bad and not like I can't play because of it.
