mizah, 7 months ago Anyone on #nixos got experience running #steam Proton games? I'm trying to get #Railgrade to run but it's just... sitting there. Says "Launching". I'm not seeing any terribly obvious issues in the logs... It just... Sits there... Anything I can poke at that might clear things up?

mattcarrier, 7 months ago @mizah try running with different version of proton and if you can look into using gamescope. I’ve had great luck using that for games.

mizah, 7 months ago @mattcarrier Oh what the actual fuck... Switched to 7.x... Added a bunch of extra libraries... Same error messages... ...and it just starts up. WTF This is just like what happened with Mashinky... If you just poke at it enough it suddenly works.

mattcarrier, 7 months ago @mizah glad it’s working checkout protondb usually has some good tips for getting stuff running or what versions work well.

mizah, 7 months ago @mattcarrier Well yeah... But it's so fucking weird. I'm not even sure what I changed. Same with with Mashinky earlier this month... Just a bunch of poking, doing the same thing over and over and over... ...then it suddenly works.

AngryAnt, 7 months ago @mizah @mattcarrier Also worth noting: As a rule of thumb I always reboot after Steam updates itself. I have found there's a very good chance of games not launching properly in the same session as an update.
