Don't feel a bit bad for ZDNet and other tech outlets who didn't think to ask if this story made any sense at all before republishing it, though. So much "tech journalism" is, sadly, a joke.
@gcluley "Translation issue" was always a bit weird here since the interview was presumably conducted in German with a native German speaker.
Assuming the best of intentions, I can readily believe that Fortinet presented this as a fictional story, the reporter misunderstood that, and Fortinet didn't bother to look at the story during fact-checking prior to publication.
Shit happens. But all the tech reporters who were like, "Yeah, that sounds too good to fact check" should be embarrassed.
