The #canberra Liberal's Woden Busway plan in place of LR Stage 2B is giving me the NBN Mixed Technology vibes.

I'm wondering if it was to go ahead, would we be returning in 5 to 10 years time to put in light rail anyway?

@CurbsideShip116 Yes. I love how everything there is “for investigation” and “potential”. They also don’t say where the space is coming from — presumably effectively reducing Commonwealth Ave to two lanes all the way. I don’t oppose that, but it’s something a lot of people will be interested in.

@Charles yep, my first thought was "hmmm, car people are going to hate the end result of this", cause there was no way there was going to be a bus only lane at that cost without taking away from car lanes.

@CurbsideShip116 Also, they have “Made in Canberra for Canberran’s”, complete with apostrophe, written on their badly photoshopped bus. Ugh.

@Charles oh whooops! I didn't even notice that one. Hahaha. Must be a bus for just one Canberran. While I like the idea of locally made fleet, I question how likely bus manufacturing in Canberra would actually be. Worth noting we get our fleet locally made in Australia anyway.

@CurbsideShip116 Strikes me as populist nonsense. Fine if it were remotely feasible, but establishing that sort of industry in Canberra from scratch would be incredibly expensive, and where would the workers come from?

More focus on improving the bus network’s frequency is good though.

@Charles @CurbsideShip116 we have a systemic worker shortage, so the last thing we need is job creation projects that will add unnecessary cost. I like this policy generally though, because of the novelty of the Libs producing something of substance, and in the hope that it will force Labor to actually make the case for the investment in light rail
