kravietz, There’s a strong movement in support of #GMO in upcoming European Parliament vote. Interestingly, the support is coming from scientific and environmental experts, including some #organic farmers:
Nearly three dozen Nobel laureates have joined more than 1,000 scientists in urging members of the European Parliament to embrace science-based gene editing technology. New Genomic Techniques, they write in a petition, “hold immense promise for sustainable agriculture, enhanced food security, and innovative medical solutions.”
Surprising? But if you start with the definition of “organic farming” as farming that attempts to minimize negative impact on environment, it makes perfect sense. Genetically organic plant varieties require less herbicides and pesticides and less land, which means they actually do support biodiversity more than traditionally cultivated varieties.
