#Trump’s son-in-law said he was close to finalizing real estate projects in the two #Balkan nations, an example of the Trump family’s pursuit of deals abroad as the former president seeks the White House.
#JaredKushner, the son-in-law of #Trump, confirmed on Fri that he was closing in on major real estate deals in #Albania & #Serbia, the latest example of TFG’s family doing business abroad even as Trump seeks to return to the WhiteHouse.
#Kushner’s plans in the #Balkans appear to have come about in part through relationships built while Trump was in office.
#Kushner, who was a snr WH ofcl, said he had been working on the deals w/ #RichardGrenell, who served briefly as acting director of national #intelligence under #Trump & also as ambassador to Germany & special envoy to the Balkans.
One of the proposed projects would be the development of an island off the coast of #Albania into a luxury tourist destination.
A 2nd — w/a planned luxury hotel & 1,500 residential units & a museum — is in #Belgrade, the capital of #Serbia….
These first 2 projects both involve land now controlled by the govts, meaning a deal would have to be finalized w/ #ForeignGovernments.
A 3rd project, also in #Albania, would be built on the Zvërnec peninsula, a 1k-acre coastal area in the south….
#Kushner’s participation would be through his investment firm, #AffinityPartners, which has $2B in funding from #SaudiArabia’s Public Investment Fund, among other foreign investors.
More than a decade ago, before running for president, Donald Trump expressed interest in developing the SAME site in Belgrade that his son-in-law now plans to invest $500 million in rebuilding.
News of the #Kushner proposal provoked strong objections…from opposition party ldrs in #Serbia….
Opposition party ldrs said they had not been properly informed of the plan & called it inappropriate that an American company owned by a #Trump family member would… #profit off a site that a #UnitedStates led coalition bombed 25 yrs ago.
