sadreality, in Nationalist Turks saying how great their country is from their apartment in Germany...

Russian "patriots" do the same.

BakedGoods,

Polish too. I’ve had colleagues explain to me how allowing abortion is actually part of the communist/gay agenda to take over Poland. Dude’s been living in Sweden since the 80s and claims he loves how freeing it was to come here.

moreeni,

Ukrainian too. It’s basically a third(second)-world thing.

Kecessa,

It’s a thing with many immigrant families.

First generation left for a reason, second generation are close enough to the first to understand why they left, third generation and up are too far removed from their ancestors to understand why they left and still have to deal with not being considered the same as “true locals”, putting them in an uncomfortable situation where they don’t fit anywhere but all they know is that the country they actually know doesn’t seem to welcome them. They start to idolize the land their ancestors came from even if they never went or never spent enough time there to actually see what it’s like to actually live there.

And that’s how you end up with people in their early twenties leaving European countries to go fight in a third world hell hole where they aren’t welcomed either and they end up needing to be saved by their country of origin…

moreeni,

What you are saying is true, but I would like to point out that this is often a thing with even a single generation

IWantToFuckSpez, (edited )

I think that mindset happens in all diaspora communities. Even people in the US who are like 6 generations away from an European ancestor somehow have a dumbass fascist opinion about European issues, that leftist and immigrants are ruining Europe and Europe was better when their ancestors still lived there. These diaspora want to see their motherland frozen in time and not modernize and progress, since for them it’s a holiday destination and a trip down memory lane and they want to see a quaint civilization stuck doing the old ways.

Peaty,

Some of us knew our ancestors from “the old country” and if you did/do you know how racist they are/were. The guy six generations out doesn’t know those ancestors and thus might lionize them in ways the ones that know their ancestors don’t.

HubertManne,
HubertManne avatar

im only second generation and certainly don't think that. How could someone six generations out even know much about their ancestral country. I mean 6 generations living in the US. They would have come over close to the birth of the US.

Not sure if your meme is true, but this was a horrible interview. As Tucker had claimed the other sellout western journalists to omit questions, he too did the same.

Perhaps Tucker was scared shitless, he couldn’t ask a proper question. Most of it was Putin rambling. I’m not from the west, so I’m not even sure if they were right about the history of Russia and Ukraine. I watched the first five minutes, then gave up, because it was that bad.

Reminds me of the Canadian Kumar interview with Modi: “Do you eat mangoes? How do you eat them?”

Dippy,

Agreeeeed. Didn’t understand the backlash for him to go interview Putin, who cares, anyone can if the Kremlin agrees (turns out they turned a lot away). Getting this out of the interview was so disappointing though.

At the very least ask some form of question. Tucker was emasculated by Putin in this interview. We gained nothing from it but memes about 3000bc.

Tucker had a chance to prove a lot of people wrong about him, but instead was shown to cower in the presence of Putin.

Lupus108,

You didn’t understand the backlash of Tucker helping Putin spread his propaganda to Tuckers audience?

Because everybody knew beforehand he is not gonna do a hard interview. Instead he went with a warmongering fascist dictator and let him ramble his worldview to his audience basically unchallenged and you don’t see a problem with that?

Dippy,

It’s out there already for anyone who wants to see it. If you haven’t heard his views on the war you’ve been living under a rock. Almost all media outlets shared his 2021? Essay on Ukraine. Were you outraged at that too?

cnn reporting on his essay

I’d say this was actually a great outcome of an interview as most people heard his ramblings, laughed at it, and turned it off. Further making Putin and Russia look bad. That’s a great outcome.

Lupus108,

You do realize that critically commenting on his essay (which is what your linked article does) and sitting there with a stupid face letting him ramble about nonsense unchallenged for two hours are two very different things?

One is a responsible(ish) journalistic approach to a difficult topic, the other is just making yourself his vicarious agent for the sake of the outrage and money.

I wouldn’t criticize that someone would interview him in a journalistic responsible way but that’s not what happened, because Putin would not let that happen.

You yourself said in your first comment that the Kremlin turned a lot of journalists requests for interviews down - gee I wonder why? I wonder why they turned down people trying to interview him that have at least an ounce of journalistic integrity and instead invited someone who is repeating Russian propaganda for almost two years now.

I’d say this was actually a great outcome of an interview as most people heard his ramblings, laughed at it, and turned it off. Further making Putin and Russia look bad. That’s a great outcome.

Sure, you and I laughed about Putins nonsense, Tuckers stupid face and whatnot but Tuckers audience has been primed with Russian talking points for almost two years, those people will have open ears for this revisionistic bullshit. The outcome is not positive at all, it is dangerous, a grade A demagogue and puppeteer sat down with a puppet and was able to throw his ideological corner stones over the border of his own state controlled media and that is frightening.
