@MarkMaguire The shape isn't a style thing (or at least wasn't initially, though they leaned into it). It's that they wanted to make it be able to withstand heavy impacts and not need paint, which meant using full-hard 3mm stainless instead of <1mm mild steel. But you can't stamp that (not without wearing out your tooling quickly), so it had to be folded, which makes it angular. Also to get better mass performance they used an braced cantilever instead of unbraced for the rear, aka triangular.
@nafnlaus The unpainted stainless steel thing is a bit reminiscent of a DeLorean? My problem is that whatever the rationale for how the truck ended up looking like this, it now looks like what a lot of people picture in their heads as a bad-looking or ineptly styled vehicle. Good challenge for the marketing department.
@MarkMaguire DeLorean learned the hard way about stamping stainless. ;) And that was thin stainless. Stamping 3mm full hard stainless in scales of hundreds of thousands a year is just a no-go.
Actually, there's a lot of mistakes DeLorean made with stainless that others got to learn from ;)
@MarkMaguire the cybertruck looks comically bad, like someone saw a poorly done car in one of those low budget N64 games and was like "... I need this"
I've seen pictures of it in the streets next to real cars and it's just... so baffling?!?!?
