At first I thought you were talking about something as simple as abstracting some kind of storage service behind your own domain name. See, for example, https://underlap.org/abstracting-cloud-storage.

@underlap just saved this to read in the morning! It ended up being an exercising in reclaiming a lot of that data rather than simply accessing it from elsewhere. I imagine I'll push it a bit further as different use cases occur to me.

@cory I guess the next logical step for me to reclaim my data from my cloud provider would be to use something like syncthing to share it across my machines and VPS.

@underlap I haven’t gone quite that far yet (I’m not sure I trust myself with that just yet) — we use iCloud with Apple’s advanced data protection on and I’ve been using 1Password for over a decade now.
