Wondering about Proton Mail
After our conversations about #Notesnook with @Leisureguy and @nbcactus I watched an interview with one of the developers and started thinking about secure email. https://proton.me/mail
I am wondering about how practical a switch it would be. We have domain emails and Gmail addresses, use Gmail interface. #ProtonMail
I see it includes a VPN but my subscription to #nordVPN lasts another year.
Has anyone done the switch who is prepared to chime in with thoughts?

I was about to make the switch. I had purchased a couple of business accounts, and moved a domain over to check functionality.
At the last moment I realised there is no ability to sync contacts with your phone, so I'd need to runs two sets of contacts. I checked and they have no plan on when such a feature will exist.
Such a shame. So many other positives, but data duplication I can live without
@EllieK@Leisureguy Or you could treat everything in email as unsecured communication and leave sensitive communication to an encrypted platform like signal?
@EllieK@Leisureguy Maybe I shouldn't speak with out knowing more but will mail between you and contacts not on proton mail be encrypted? Also what's to prevent them from forwarding your mail to unencrypted mail recipients? Or for that matter including your email in a reply to others with unencrypted mail? genuinely curious..We could go deep down that rabbit hole, what's to prevent a screenshot of Signal?
@mike@Leisureguy all good questions I don't know the answers to, but I believe mail sent from proton to non proton is encrypted. According to what I read. @NBCactus might know the answers.
I'm a bit sick of Google dependence. And the ads.
My mail is all trivial stuff. (For tax info, for example, I use a secure portal provided by my accountant.) So I just use Gmail and attach to Apple Mail app on my notebook computer.
