I was asked yesterday how much I rehearse my talks.

Simple answer: I don’t.

More complicated answer: I make my talk outline and have presenter notes on what I want to say. I know the talk intimately and I prepare to say what I want to say. I never write my talks out or practice the speech, though; I find it limits the authenticity.

If you hear me speak you’re hearing me speak what I’m saying for the first time ever in that exact way. Every talk is unique, even ones I’ve given before.
