I like how the metaverse didn't happen

Facebook evaporated billions of dollars on it and then just... nothing

Even autocorrect is like "that's not a word"

@ghosttie the same for crypto
and nfts
and generative art
and self driving cars
and humanoid robots

@ben they haven't stopped flogging those dead horses yet though (except NFTs I think)

ClutchAbuse,

@ghosttie well I wouldn't say evaporated. People who worked on it got paid.

@ClutchAbuse true

But from Facebook's point of view it was a huge investment that did not pay off at all

@ghosttie oh for sure. And it was so obvious from the beginning that it was never going to work in a million years.

I was a VR dev for quite a while! If I couldn't get my wife, a tech worker, to be in VR for more than five minutes, how was the average joe supposed to care?

@ClutchAbuse yeah I don't see it taking off for the general public until it's as easy as putting on sunglasses

@ghosttie I doubt even then. People like to dick around too much. Anything short of a complete sensory override a la "Roy " from Rick and Morty isn't going to be anything but a gimmick. AR has potential though.
