Why does recorded black metal always sound like it was recorded in a can of beans?

@kaiserkiwi Because most "Bands" are a single random dude recording in his garage :D

But being "raw" and rather underprocessed is usually also part of the genre itself. You don't want it to be highly polished like in other genres.

But yeah, I get it. Weird in this case is: Until the e-guitars and drums kick in, it’s rather high quality in comparison.

But I guess Black Metal is a genre to experience live.

@hannsr Nah Distortion is fine. That's something you have in other metal genres too. But in Black Metal the quality is rather low in comparison.

@kaiserkiwi One Band (well, again, one man ^^) defined that kind of style in general. He couldn't even sing that well, yet he did. And almost the whole subgenre until today builds on hin legacy. So it's a choice in the end. And I like the raw, unpolished nature of it. Fits the style so much better imo.

@hannsr I guess it also comes to MY equipment. I hear this with HomePods and AirPods.

Probably not the best equipment to listen to something like Black Metal. 😅
