I never knew this until recently, but the Pennsylvania Railroad used to run a 21 acre slaughterhouse right in west #philly
“By 1885, the 21-acre site housed cattle pens for 7,300 head, sheep pens for 10,000, hog pens of similar capacity as the sheep pens, covered sheds for about 500 cows and calves, the “main office and exchange building,” stables for holding and selling horses, the abattoir, and the “fat and reducing department.”
