Just a follow up on this folks: I (or any other BSKY user) can’t see your interactions with BSKY posts unless you follow this account:

@bsky.brid.gy@bsky.brid.gy

This is because a bunch of fedi users got upset at the idea of the bridge so participation is OPT-IN ONLY

If you wanna interact with BSKY users, you MUST follow that account or else you’re basically just following an RSS feed of someone’s posts https://furries.club/@lupomancer/112414677366249953

@lupomancer Since I'm using masto to have an account I can lock, doesn't seem prudent to let that bridge follow me back where it could expose all my private posts publicly. I think bsky is going to need more feature parity with DM's and locked accounts/private posts before a bridge will work well.

@thumper It's worth noting that the bridge doesn't post anything that isn't a public post!

@lupomancer I'm waiting for the bridge to mature before I jump on using it... I know it's still very much a work in progress but right now it's kind of a pain in the ass. It doesn't know how to handle CWs so it just posts the CW text and nothing else. If I understand correctly it also just truncates long posts down to the BlueSky character limit with an ellipsis, but I haven't yet actually tested that one. At least it properly threads replies to yourself, unlike the SkyMoth mirror service. Gonna be keeping an eye on Bridgy tho, it'll be glorious when I never have to touch BlueSky's site ever again haha

@baralheia I was actually doing some testing last night and yeah the truncation isn’t the right decision. At least make a thread.

I didn’t know about the CW thing though, I’m undecided if posting the text is better or not than not posting CWs at all like Skymoth.

I think at this point it’s still useful if people want to interact with BSKY users, I’ve already got some people from fedi following and interacting with my bridged BSKY account but I’m not seeing any of those interactions or replies on BSKY because they aren’t following the bridge account and opting in

@lupomancer Yeah, I want to use it, I've been excited for Bridgy ever since it was announced! I'm just waiting until it's a little more mature first before I implement the bridge as a permanent replacement for my existing BS account. I know it's kinda in an early beta state right now and the dev is still working on it, so I know it'll get there... But this whole "you gotta follow this account before your posts/replies/mentions will be bridged" thing is kinda awful lol. That needs to be fixed first, hopefully that comes soon. I also hope they figure out some way to let the bridge use an existing account on either end too, especially since BS doesn't have a way for me to move my posts/followers/etc to the new bridged account handle. My intention and goal is for Fedi to be my primary but have a presence on BS thru the bridge, and to be able to follow and interact with certain friends through it who only wanna use BS, but it's gotta have as little friction as possible for people.

As far as the CWs go, ideally, I'd like whatever bridge I use to post both the CW and the text, but in my (admittedly very limited) experience most BS users don't seem to care at all about such things so as long as my post makes it there I'm okay with that. Right now, SkyMoth will post the text without the CW, and Bridgy will post the CW by itself without the text... So until Bridgy fixes that, it's kind of a hard stop for me unfortunately.

@baralheia unfortunately I don't think the follow system is going to be changed... initially there was no opt-in system based on following, but fedi users freaked out at the dev and he had to institute this to make sure people can only be bridged if they want.

Personally I think that's hugely damaging to the utility of the bridge because that's basically limiting it to the %0.02 of users who are enabled and familiar enough to engage with the problem. That's totally ignoring the fact that a ton of instances have straight up blocked his, negating the bridge entirely.

It's really unfortunate because bridgy could have been amazing but somewhere along the line people forgot what federation was all about.
