Post News was one of many alternatives that emerged in 2022 during the implosion of the Twitter platform. Seemingly loved by journalists, but limited by a ridiculous invite-only launch strategy and the creation of bogus accounts intended to lure publishers to the platform, it always remained very niche. And now it's dead. https://post.news/@/noam/2fJw4PYRFjya343RpiToiyEQr0x

@tannerman Maybe they could pull a #Pebble and try to start a Mastodon instance? @gabor and the rest of the pebble.social community might able to offer some advice. I think there have been some attempts to create a verified journalist news space here and so maybe Post might have some cachet to make it happen. Or, the journalists will all head to #Bluesky - LOL

@seanbala I think your last point is probably the most likely

@tannerman Not scientific by any means but in my examination of the accounts I follow which are inactive, I noticed most of the journalists and academics moved to BlueSky. Basically, anyone who relies on a certain level of networking / influence in their careers. One academic here noted that the invite-only beta allowed networks to establish themselves on BS so they were ready at launch. I noticed more artists and traditional "influencers" on Threads.

@tannerman It makes a perverse sort of sense. Journalists and academics need to have a sense of connection with their networks and a sense of "influence" - that sense of influence is part of the non-monetary pay. And the network you build is in large part your value. But what I always through was interesting is that even on Twitter, the network of people was actually very small networks talking amongst themselves.

@tannerman That's why something like Twitter might be influential even with comparatively small numbers. In a nation like India, so few people are on Twitter but the elites in media, politics, economy, and the academy are there. So, it is these sort of elite conversations amongst themselves.

@seanbala I like your analysis and would tend to agree. My days are spent in corporate social, so I've been keep tabs on these emerging platforms for some time - it's interesting to see the types of communities that are being built.
