Have you ever thought about blogging anonymously? I blog under my real name, but wonder if that could have held me back...

@kev There are a few reasons why I post anonymously on my blog/site.
First, it was a habit of using a pseudonym when I was a teen and started using computers. I think it was influenced by the demo scene. When I registered my domain, I used the nickname I had been using for a while on the web.
Second, I don't like the idea that any wanker could just search my name, find my blog and then stalk your ass IRL because he doesn't like something you posted (something about Linux for example).

@kev Whois privacy is a must though imo, even if you are using your real name. You don't want them to just get your address that easily, right?
The same goes for future employers. When they search for my name, they will find a nice LinkedIn profile, but that's about it.
My domain registrar knows who I am, but that's OK. My life doesn't depend on it, and I kind of trust them. Besides, I have their address too. 😁

@kev Funny, I launched a mini site a while back about blogging anonymously (which is still very difficult)

@tdarb Oh, I like this! As soon as my VPS provider sort their sh*t out and my site is back up, I’ll be sure to add this link to the post.

@kev It all depends on who you are afraid of pissing off.

kev,
@kev@fosstodon.org avatar

@pratik It’s so much more than that (for me).

@kev Say more. I ask as someone who used a pseudonym but now use my real name (first name only though).

@pratik @kev I'm very curious to hear more too

@gurupanguji @pratik Maybe I didn’t explain it in the post very well? For me, it wouldn’t be about fear of pissing anyone off, as I’d still write in a very similar way to how I write now, I think. I might be more open about my personal life, and maybe talk about InfoSec more. So the concern for me would be about over-sharing, rather than pissing people off.

@kev @keenan When I started I used a pseudonym, one that has taken over my real name. Most people just know me/call me by that pseudonym. Some don’t even know my real name, others do and still use the pseudonym.

If I wanted to have an anonymous blog, I could probably use my real name.

@kev@fosstodon.org avatar

@maique @keenan Oh the irony!

@kev thankfully my full name is not very common (or very common and there's too many people who aren't me), people looking it up online will have a hard time finding me I think :P

I don't want people to find me, but once they do, I don't mind if they keep reading lol

@kev I've always blogged under a pseudonym (not anonymous, it doesn't exist on internet).

My main reason is because I like separate things. Personal, online, work life.
