01/04/2024 MC POV: Write a Mastodon introduction post.

I’ve decided to do it with a small comic, reusing customised arts and panels from the 1st issue.

(I wont do this everyday 😅)

#wordweavers 02/04/2024 What books/resources have you used to improve your writing? Which ones do you recommend?

Comics and Sequential Art by Will Eisner. It helps me thinking about the nature of writing in the context of comics

#wordweavers 03/04/2024 Antagonist POV: How do you feel about animals?

I like my pets to be obedient

nautilebleu,
@nautilebleu@mamot.fr avatar

#wordweavers 04/04/2024 Is there writing advice you used to follow but changed your mind?

I don’t have much opportunity to change my habits, since Esther and Erie being the first project I write seriously.

#wordweavers 05/04/2024 SC POV: Who is your favorite person to be around?

“I’m surprised you even need to ask! Esther, my beloved mistress, for sure!”

nautilebleu,
@nautilebleu@mamot.fr avatar

#wordweavers 06/04/2024 Does your MC feel understood? Why/why not?

Esther feels totally misunderstood by nearly everyone, her family, her doctors who can’t find what she suffers of. Everyone except Erie.
Excerpt from the Page 7 of the issue #1: Esther came to seek help from her father. It felt short.
[Edit: add context for the excerpt]

@nautilebleu@mamot.fr avatar

#wordweavers 07/04/2024 What conflicts (internal and/or external, subtle or grand) are important in your story?

The internal conflict that gnaws at Esther: the evil that devours her from the inside wants to make her sink and she struggles to keep her sanity

nautilebleu,
@nautilebleu@mamot.fr avatar

#wordweavers 08/04/2024 MC POV: Are you happy? Why/why not?

“No, I’m not. Between my family under the control of an abusive father, my boring life after forced marriage to a very old man, and finally, my infection by an evil plague during the event of The Chamberlain’s seminary, I don’t have much reason to be happy.

But there’s a small glimmer of hope: Erie”

[edit: use 1st person because it’s a POV]

The day Esther meets her husband: Esther looks to her father who can’t sustain her look while her future husband is holding her hand with a carnivorous look.
Esther examined by her doctor. Both don’t know what is happening
Erie comforts Esther after she’s done a terrible nightmare

nautilebleu,
@nautilebleu@mamot.fr avatar

#wordweavers 09/04/2024 What powers (e.g. political, religious, corporate, magical, natural, etc.) influence your characters' lives?

⁃ Esther: the thing that tries to corrupt her from the inside
⁃ Erie: the fear of Lady d’Arcy’s stick

Another learning day at The Chamberlain Seminary. Erie with another leonine maid clean a human chair under the sharp eye of Lady d’Arcy who stands in the stairs in a red suit and top hat holding a cane stands on the right. The chair seems to suffer, or maybe it is ecstatic?

nautilebleu,
@nautilebleu@mamot.fr avatar

#wordweavers 10/04/2024 How much power does your MC have?

Initially Esther has no power because she fights the evil thing in her. Then after an event that will leave her helpless, she will abandon herself to the evil thing, gaining lots of power: she can connect & control other people perverted like her, but the infection being only partial thanks to Erie’s intervention, they can’t do the same. The evil can cure her from most injuries: in a fight her forearms will be cut, but they will regrow.

nautilebleu,
@nautilebleu@mamot.fr avatar

#wordweavers 11/04/2024 How much power does your antagonist have?

Lady d’Arcy has access to different powers:

⁃ By her marriage with Sir James, she’s been introduced to the aristocracy. Sir James was also wealthy.
⁃ Being a sociopath, she uses their position and their money to gain more power, by manipulating, bribing and blackmailing.
⁃ Smart and without any moral limits, she developed in interest into dark magic and science, mixing the twos to gain even more power.
(1/2)

Excerpt from Inktober 2020: Lady d’Arcy participating to a black mass with the top aristocrats (including Sir James)
Excerpt from Inktober 2020: old Lady d’Arcy trying to recover her youth conducting twisted scientific experiments mixed with dark magic. She’s helped by Sir James

#wordweavers 12/04/2024 What communities play a role in your story?

  • Esther dysfunctional family is where her temper has been forged
  • The twisted aristocracy around the Chamberlain allow Lady d’Arcy to gain power before forcing them to exile
  • The Chamberlain seminary: Lady d’Arcy’s tool comeback & where Erie has been shaped into a maid
  • The medical congregation with doc Joyce, Jekyll & Moreau, plus Esther family doctor
  • Esther home, with Erie: this community of 2 is the heart of the story
nautilebleu,
@nautilebleu@mamot.fr avatar

#wordweavers 13/04/2024 What are some of the tropes typical in your genre? Do you use them?

Tropes of the old fashioned horror stories from the 19th like Island of Dr Moreau, Dracula, Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mister Hyde

⁃ The MC is a male ⛔️
⁃ The antagonist is a male ⛔️
⁃ The women are absent or mostly useless ⛔️
⁃ The story is about the good/morality vs bad/immorality ⛔️

That’s said Carmillia doesn’t respect those tropes too

nautilebleu,
@nautilebleu@mamot.fr avatar

#wordweavers 14/04/2024 Is your MC spontaneous, or a planner?

Esther never really had the control of her life, so i would say spontaneous, as she just reacts to the situations that impose themselves on her

nautilebleu,
@nautilebleu@mamot.fr avatar

#wordweavers 15/04/2024 What would be your antagonist's favorite movie?

Lady D’Arcy: “I hesitate between American Psycho, The Talented Mister Ripley and Dangerous Liaisons, so many nicely twisted characters, without this stupid moral compass and ready to do anything required to achieve their goals. Why did I have to choose?”

nautilebleu,
@nautilebleu@mamot.fr avatar

#wordweavers 16/04/2024 If your MC hosted a talk show, what would it be about?

Fashion: Esther is a fashionista, being perfectly dressed and made up is extremely important for her.

Cristina Cordula, a former model who presents the show “Les Reines du shopping” on French TV. She’s well known for her punchlines mixing French and English with a Brasilian accent

nautilebleu,
@nautilebleu@mamot.fr avatar

#wordweavers 17/04/2024 What personal expertise of yours makes it into your books?

Hopefully I put my abilities in required sectors to do a comic book like anatomy, storyboard, etc. But if the question is about university graduations or professional skills, I don’t think I put any.

I’m currently finishing the interior pages for Esther and Erie with nightmares double pages. Here’s one of Esther awakening after a nightmare, Erie rushing to help her.

nautilebleu,
@nautilebleu@mamot.fr avatar

#wordweavers 18/04/2024 Do you write primarily in the same genre you read as a child?

I’ve been raised with the Claremont run on the X-men, learning to read with Days of Future Past.

Esther and Erie is quite different (not the same era, duo vs team, galaxy scale action vs human beings level) but it’s still about the question of differences & how to accept them. From C. Claremont, I also kept the taste for strong female characters, & artists like J Byrne, P Smith or A Davis influenced me a lot

nautilebleu,
@nautilebleu@mamot.fr avatar

#wordweavers 19/04/2024 Do you tend to connect with your MCs or antagonists more?
I am not a narcissistic sociopath (at least I hope, but how to be sure 🙀), so even if I like the twisted Lady d’Arcy, I feel more connections with Esther

Illustration: my latest custom art for an artbook. Theme was Esther and Erie at universal exposition

nautilebleu,
@nautilebleu@mamot.fr avatar

#wordweavers 20/04/2024 Do you plan out your themes or allow them to develop as you write?

Since I rewrite the story and completely change Erie’s background story, I guess I fall into the second category.

nautilebleu,
@nautilebleu@mamot.fr avatar

#wordweavers 21/04/2024 If your MC's main skill evaporated, would they survive the story?

At the beginning of the story, Esther main skill is to be the perfect lady to marry, in order to help her father raising in the society: beautiful, well dressed and some education to have interesting conversation. If we remove that, she wouldn’t be in the story.

Illlustration: Inktober 2019 Day 1, the very first beginning of Esther story: she has been married for bad reasons and all the bad things to come

nautilebleu,
@nautilebleu@mamot.fr avatar

#wordweavers 22/04/2024 What two senses are the most natural for you to include in your description?

Since I am a comic artist, I don’t really do descriptions. In addition to visual art, I can add sounds effects. I would like to include smells as well since it’s important for Erie but I still have to figure out how

Esther’s father slams his desk’s door
The doctor hits Esther’s mansion main door

nautilebleu,
@nautilebleu@mamot.fr avatar

#wordweavers 23/04/2024 How much of an age range do you have with your MCS?

In the main story Esther is 19. At least she was an adult when she has been married to her husband.
In Inktober 2023, the dream sequence gets her back to her 12.

24/04/2024 Do you include characters from all socioeconomic classes in your story?

Oh yes, from the maid to the count and countess, and the middle class in between, I cover all the socioeconomic classes.

[Illustrations: Stickers of Érié the leonine maid, the decadent aristocrat Countess Chamberlain, the (upper) middle class Esther]

Sticker of Lady Chamberlain with the text « It’s good to be bad »

#wordweavers 26/04/2024 In your story, who's hiding (literally or metaphorically?)

Since I have Jekyll, I also have Hyde. The alter ego of the Doctor will share his serum with Moreau

[Illlustration: Moreau and Jekyll after taking Jekyll’s serum, turning them into De Guise and Hyde]

Moreau turned into De Guise by Jekyll’s serum. He isn’t changed as much as Jekyll, but his face shows his depravity

#wordweavers 28/04/2024 Do you have an irrepressibly good-humored character? How do others react to them?

Not really. The most good humored character is Sir James. As long as he is with Lady d’Arcy, he’s happy, but not the point to be annoying. He’s still an aristocrat after all.

[Illustration: Sir James ]
#fediart #mastodonart #mastoart #creativetoots

#wordweavers 29/04/2024 Who's feeling shame in your story? Is it justified?

Esther’s father and it’s totally justified: his obsession for social recognition leads to his son’s suicide and to do too risky investments. Ruined, he has no choice but to marry his daughter in exchange for a cancellation of his debts.

#wordweavers 30/04/2024 Does your MC have any pets? If so, what are they?

Erié is far more than just a pet, but as a cat like character, she enjoys being with her mistress, purring while being caressed
