I dunno. In my experience, if the cat likes your date, then your date is a good one. I had a boyfriend who was hated by my cat. But that same cat loved my Spouse.
So waking up the next day to find your cat happily getting scritched on the lap of your date is a good sign.

Wen is absolutely determined to make Jim blush as often as possible. I think it's working.
I can see why Jim would just want an uncomplicated, no strings attached, one night stand. He does not have the bandwidth to care about any more humans. He is already stretched thin caring for who he has already. Wen wants more, but Jim is already pouring from an empty cup.
But! That second beer Wen took from Jim. The first one, they touched hands. The second one, Wen purposely did NOT touch Jim's hand. Respecting the boundary?
D'aw, Wen bought fruit for Jim and said, "don't forget to eat." 😊 He's already trying to care about and take care of Jim.
So, did nephew purposely offer to work for that family in order to make friends with Heart?

@JillsJoy No, Li Ming offered to work because he understands neither he nor Jim can afford that kind of money and he also wants a reason to not be at the diner/around his uncle.
Don't know how far he'll have thought it through, but it would be another point of tension if Jim paid it off.
Li Ming is also desperate to be responsible for himself.
At this point, he doesn't like Heart.
"Don't waste your time on me. Someone like me doesn't fit to be anyone's home." Oh, Jim. Do you not see the home you have made for so many already? 😭 Now I'm feeling a bit introspective myself, doubting my own worth, when I also try to be safe and supportive for others. There's a reason why kids and dogs and other people feel safe around me.
But Wen is treading thin ice by helping the nephew out. Jim's gonna get upset!
Oh, shit. On top of everything else, now Jim's restaurant is slated to be demolished, too? Dude just can't get a break. (Other than Wen falling for him, I guess.)
This stairway conversation between Heart and nephew is so cute. And they are mirror images of each other as they sit next to each other. 🥰

Gong really called Wen out, there, and it looks like it was very much needed, too. No wonder Alan was getting angry. Wen kept sending him mixed signals and even still had his couples ring. I'd be angry, too.
I'm glad Wen really finally called it off and had the grown up conversation that was needed.
He's been deaf for THREE YEARS and his own mom hasn't bothered to learn sign language? But his buddy of a couple months is already much more fluent? Ouch.
I would like to think that I would react differently as a mom in that situation. ☹️

@JillsJoy No, Wen wouldn't force the situation like that. Jim's been avoiding him lately but they've mostly become very close friends after all these months. He's the one Wen is going to turn to. Which is also the role Jim takes in most of his friends' lives.
You can see the gears turning in Wen's head after Jim told him that he's looking for a permanent home, too. Wen is 100% ready to just kiss Jim right then and there, but opts for the shoulder snuggle instead. 🥵 That neck nuzzle. Oof. Jim tensed up again, too, but forgoing the kiss was the right choice. And he keeps offering himself up to Jim for kisses, but purposely leaves it to Jim to finish the connection. sigh Oh, Jim.
Beam fucking DIED on the ferry right after their fight?! Holy shit.
I'm with Jim, though. If Beam took his ring off before leaving for the weekend EVERY weekend, and didn't answer the phone all weekend, and would hide his phone screen from you, I'd think he was cheating, too.

If I were Jim, I'd wish for an invisibility cloak. JUST STOP PERCEIVING ME. I JUST WANT TO LIVE WITHOUT ANY EXPECTATIONS FROM ANYONE ELSE. Because that is A LOT. And from people he tentatively depends on. There's the worry that he won't be able to do even that. 💔

Oof, gonna think about that line a bit. If someone dies and there are still unresolved feelings or questions, you're kinda stuck. The only resolution you'll ever get is from yourself.
i don't see it as "saving" Heart because he's D/deaf but because his parents are clueless, Heart's not a rebel type and got lost in his loss (paralleling Jim), while Li Ming is a good kid but in rebellion against elder authority mode anyway so he's exactly what Heart needs (like Wen is exactly what Jim needs).
They should have left it as selective mutism though. That was unrealistic even if it worked well as metaphor re listening and communication.

And Wen's acknowledgement that he had also hoped that they could make it work again, and that the clarity he needed to make was for himself to finally let Alan go... 💔 Heart breaks for both of them.
