A US official confirms to my VOA News colleague Carla Babb that the US was involved in an airstrike in Baghdad, Iraq that hit "a high-value individual target."
The primary target of the drone strike in Baghdad was senior commander Abu Baqir al-Saadi of Kataib Hezbollah, an Iran-backed armed group in Iraq that the DoD linked to an attack that killed three US Army reservists in Jordan.
US Central Command says its forces today "conducted a unilateral strike in Iraq in response to the attacks on U.S. service members, killing a Kata’ib Hezbollah commander responsible for directly planning and participating in attacks on U.S. forces in the region. There are no indications of collateral damage or civilian casualties at this time."
