Exactly: 'The fact that the majority of web users block ads reveals a strong preference for not being spied on ("users just want relevant ads" is such an obvious lie that doesn't merit any serious discussion)' https://pluralistic.net/2024/01/24/everything-not-mandatory/#is-prohibited @pluralistic

lindsey,

@DanielRThomas
Yeah, relevant ads are incredibly easy, they've existed basically since ads have existed. A tech magazine has ads for tech related stuff or stuff research shows people into tech like, for example. A dog site has ads for dogs and dog owners. It's such a clear lie they have to spy on us.

@DanielRThomas @pluralistic Although i have an adblocker and the habit of denying cookies there are usually up to 16000 cookies on my pc at the end of the day. 😒
Advise welcome.

@Grootinside do you have your browser set to clear cookies upon being closed? That's what I do with my Firefox installation, alongside whitelisting the few sites I want to remain signed into.

@constancies which apparently doesn't change the fact i am collecting thousands of cookies in the first place. Right?

No i haven't, at least to check the amount of cookies collected. It's always a good reminder about how much is happening below the "surface". 😉
So i use even 2 programs to clean up after browsing. (making double sure about)
