Not since Vietnam, no. But that's only true to the degree that the rulers of a "democracy" have to contend with truly independent media. Which is why we've been in a decades-long struggle between the media independence enabled by new tech (TV, VHS, the net and the web, etc), and the oligarchs determined to take control of every "democracy".
