Biologists! I received a large .tiff image from electronic microscope imaging. It doesn't show well in any image viewer I tried on Mac. The thumbnail is perfect though, so I know the image is fine. What should I do to see it, or to convert .tiff to .png properly (the usual conversion methods haven't worked)

I suggest #FijiSc: https://fiji.sc

Free and open source, and dedicated to bioimage informatics. Works well in all operating systems.

If the command line tool:

sips file.tiff -s format png -o file.png

doesn’t work, there’s a chance Mathematica could still open it and convert it. I managed to get it to open a TIFF once that Preview wouldn’t.

If you don’t have access to Mathematica, I’d be happy to give it a try myself, if you want to email me the TIFF (gregegan at netspace dot net dot au) ... or a link to a file-sharing site if it’s too huge to email!
