jerry, I remember working at my beach place a year ago, on a conference call. At the time, I still mostly used Twitter and had notifications enabled on my phone. During my meeting, the notifications stated going crazy. I opened my phone and saw dozens of people talking about joining infosec.exchange, recommending people join infosec.exchange and so on.
The server was all in one on an AX101 Hetzner server (amd 5950) that I thought would never need to be replaced. It did quite well, performing admirably for about another 3 weeks, at which point my life outside of work mostly pivoted to being a mastodon admin.
After those 3 weeks, it was a mad scramble and hard lessons in scaling out and scaling up on the cheap.
And here we are. Over 60000 people have joined, over 18000 remain active in the time since.
I am very glad to be part of the community and appreciate the patience you’ve all shown.
